“Fighting for Freedom” Concert

A CONCERT by the Amnesty Chorale 7.30pm on Saturday 3rd November, Holy Trinity Church, Blythburgh. The Amnesty Chorale presents an evening of music and readings commemorating the centenary of the end of the First World War, and marking other struggles against oppression in the last hundred years. Proceeds from the concert will go to Amnesty International, an organisation that continues to promote universal human rights and to expose injustice

and the inhumane treatment of prisoners and minority groups. The programme will include

the “Agnus Dei” from Britten’s War Requiem, Vaughan Williams “Serenade to Music” and an extract from the Verdi Requiem with Sarah Gallop, ex-Wenhaston resident, as soloist. The choir will be made up of experienced singers from local choirs and further afield, and will be conducted by Ellis Bell, director of the Blythburgh Singers, and Richard Brain, Director of Music at Christ Church, Southgate in north London. Tickets £10 (£7 concessions) available on the door. We very much hope you will come and support us.

WELCOME to my monthly column. Now that the summer is drawing to a close it's a good time to catch up on all those little jobs before the cold, dark winter nights draw in. If you are a property landlord then I strongly urge you to sit down and check the paperwork for your tenancies. I hold free Landlord and Tenant advice

clinics here at my office and time after time I am talking to private landlords who are using outdated documentation to create their tenancies, resulting in extreme difficulties or even failure in being able to remove their tenants when they wish to do so. Times have indeed changed and it is absolutely imperative that Landlords keep abreast of current legislation. Here below is a short checklist of required actions. If you are not doing all of these then seek advice immediately: - Before a tenant takes occupation, you must provide them with: - Prescribed Information and Notes relative to the Deposit held; A valid Energy Performance Certificate

(which must be at least an “E” rating); A valid Gas Safety Certificate (where applicable); The most up to date version of the “How to Rent Guide”. If you have tenancies that

have been running since before October 1st 2015 you should have given these to your Tenant by October 1st 2018. That is the important part! If you are unsure about

any of this, then go and see your solicitor or make an appointment to pop in and see me.
