SELECTING YOUR COURSES W
elcome to Key Stage 4 and the world of GCSE study at Sibford School.
This can be both an exciting and occasionally daunting time for students as they make some significant decisions and begin to take control of their educational journey.
As a school we are determined to keep as many pathways open as possible to students and I hope that the pages ahead will give you a good sense of the many challenging and inspiring courses which we have on offer.
Deciding which subjects to study at GCSE marks an important stage in your educational journey to date. For the first time, you have to make some choices as to which subjects you are going to focus on. You will find that responsibilities go alongside this choice: • a responsibility to choose subjects which allow you to develop interests beyond GCSE, to A-level, university and a future career;
• a responsibility to maintain a balanced curriculum; and • a responsibility to keep future options open and to discuss with parents and teachers what is best for you.
Most young people perform best at GCSE when they are able to study subjects they enjoy. So
remember to choose subjects because they are right for you personally, and not because a friend is doing that subject or because you get on well with the teacher.
To help you decide which subjects will suit you best, the following pages contain information about
the courses on offer and how they are assessed. However, this is just a starting point so please don’t hesitate to ask teaching staff for guidance and advice on what’s right for you
