TEXTILES GCSE Exam Board: OCR

The study of textiles is exciting and challenging. Pupil’s work with a range of different materials and produce original, experimental work, developing their skills in areas such as free machine embroidery, printing, felting and mixed media constructed textile techniques. Through experimenting with these techniques they will gain a greater understanding of the potential and limitations of different materials and refine their skills. Pupils will also look at the work of historical and contemporary practitioners to inspire and influence their own work. As time goes on, pupils are encouraged to make individual choices based on the knowledge they have gained. Independent research and project development skills are fostered, particularly during Year 11.

The GCSE course is run over two double periods

These 10 hours are split over the course of 2 days. GCSE Textiles gives pupils the opportunity to

explore their creativity in a host of different ways, many of which will be new to them. The most important qualities we look for in potential textiles students are enthusiasm, an enquiring mind and a thirst to learn new skills.
