RxTGA Gives Patients a Boost of Motivation to Exercise

A doctor’s prescription makes all the difference BY PERRY TUCCIARONE

made in Alberta. While prospering in Alberta, we have also soft launched in four Ontario communities. This growth is due to increasing

P

support we have received from health- care providers, fitness professionals and sponsors. Positive outcomes and word of mouth from participants has also been a major factor.

WHAT’S NEW

Growth • The program was launched in

Alberta in 2011, and in 2015 it became a national not-for-profit corporation. The program is now prescribed by 92 percent of doctors in the province. In 2017, 13,278 prescriptions were writ- ten, and 3,457 were redeemed through the website or at fitness facilities (26 percent) with 43 percent of facility visi- tors purchasing additional passes after the free trial.

Ontario Rollout • The next phase of the Ontario roll-

out is establishing the first 10 com- munities in Ontario by Spring 2019. The basic infrastructure, website and people are in place, and we have just soft launched in Markham, Forest Hill, London and Stouffville. This has taught us which resources will be re- quired to expand the program effec- tively and how to make best use of sponsorship dollars.

First Ontario Project Manager • We are happy to announce that

46 Fitness Business Canada Fall 2018

rescription to Get Active (RxTGA) has been rapidly growing, and data for 2017 shows tremendous strides

Lori Longwell has accepted the first project manager position in Ontario. Lori is also the VP of Sales for Mill Pond Publishing Inc., and her wealth of experience will be a tremendous asset in expediting growth of the program in Ontario. • The project manager will co-

ordinate the reaching out and intro- duction of the program to healthcare and fitness providers, the onboarding and training of new healthcare and fit- ness providers, facilitate the tracking of prescriptions and outcomes, and co- ordinate all marketing.

Sponsorship Program • Our sponsorship program has

launched to help fund the current phase and to establish a solid founda- tion for our bigger vision. These funds go directly to cover operating costs, printing and production, to cover proj- ect manager costs to help roll out the program to 10 additional Ontario com- munities, and to support Alberta. These funds will help us leverage future pro- vincial and federal funding and cor- porate sponsorships to continue to ex- pand the program across Canada. • Professional sponsorships are

available in Chapter, Provincial and National level benefit packages de- signed for fitness suppliers, fitness facilities, community organizations, professional groups and healthcare providers. • A special thank you to InBody

Canada, GoodLife Fitness and the City of Markham, our first Professional sponsors. • Open Sponsorships are now avail-

able for independent business and in- dividual contributors through our new GoFundMe page. Visit gofundme.com/ prescription-to-get-active.
