sion for a farm shop they knew they would need to stock a wide range of both every day goods and luxury items. So, to comple- ment their home grown produce you will find the shelves full of hand-selected produce including juices, jams and chutneys, dried goods, bread, cakes, condiments and much more. There is even a butchery unit (this is Luke’s department) where you will find the farm’s own chicken as well as beautiful local beef. Where pos- sible the team have used and sup- ported local producers. Though a team/family effort,
SUFFOLK is often referred to as the larder of England thanks to the long established and highly productive farming history. Per- haps then it is no surprise to see a family owned and run farm launching a new venture to sell the produce they have grown. Hog & Hen Farm Shop opened
on March 23rd at Mill Green Farm, Stonham Aspal. The busi- ness is a joint venture between Nathan and Naomi Wiffen, her parents Mark and Rachel How- son and cousin Anna Salisbury and her husband Luke. The three couples are clearly
very passionate about bringing their fantastic produce to market. Mark and Rachel own the farm, Nathan and Mark look after the day to day running of the farm, and Naomi is the owner of Rose and Berry Flowers which is based at the farm and Anna and Luke are more hands-on with the
shop. Having said that, at any given time you might find any one, or indeed all six of the fam- ily in the shop! In a time when we are be-
coming more and more aware of where our food comes from and the environmental impact of packaging and food miles, it
the farm shop was the brainchild of Luke and Anna and through discussions with Nathan, Nao- mi, Mark and Rachel the plan evolved, and Hog & Hen was born. Now as they celebrate their first six months, plans are afoot for future developments. There are polytunnels, vegetable beds and an orchard in the grounds immediately adjacent to the car park and Nathan is looking to introduce a ‘farm walk’ which is sure to be a hit with families. In the farm shop you will find a
café area. Delicious fresh tea and coffee is served with homemade sweet and savoury treats – the perfect way to recharge before
or after a day out in the Suffolk countryside. Hog & Hen will quickly be-
come a destination venue as the team plan future events and growth. The first such event is sure to be a good one for all the family. October 13th sees what you imagine will become the first of an annual tradition of Pumpkin Parties! Come and join the fun for pumpkin crafts for children and guess the weight of what may well be the biggest
pumpkin you have ever seen! Luke is rightly very proud of the enormous beast which he reliably informs us is an Atlantic Giant! This is a lovely business with
