IT IS never too late to make a fresh start by taking up new activities or making new friends. The many clubs and organisations in the Malling Action Partnership area cater for a wide range of interests and offer a warm welcome to newcomers, so why not give them a try? Sunday September 16 From 10am to 12 noon at Haysden Country Park, enjoy a children’s walk around the park, making a memory journey stick, which records with natural objects your route around the park. Meet by the flag pole near the main car park. No booking required. This is a free event. September 16 - 29


A festival that brings international artists to historical venues in and around West Malling. Music @ Malling has a festival each September featuring the music of contemporary composers alongside classical, jazz, vocal, world and film music. Tickets available at musicatmalling.com Saturday September 22 Award winning pop up fair, the Mum2Mum Market, with top quality pre-loved baby & kids goods. There will be over 20 stalls. Come to the Cyclo Sportive event and raise vital funds for Heart of Kent Hospice. Starting at East Malling Research Centre, you have the choice of three distances taking you through the heart of the Kent countryside on either a 104km, 65km or 36km circular route. All routes Include: Feed & water stations, Comprehensive signage Marshals, first aid and vehicle support and professional chip timings. Local clubs and societies have their regular meetings as follows


East Malling Singers rehearse on Wednesday evenings, 8pm to 10pm, at St James the Great Church, East Malling. Kings Hill Rotary meets every Monday at 7.30pm at the Spitfire pub.


Chip Productions Drama Group meets Fridays at 7.30pm at West Malling village hall.


Malling Photographic Society meets every Tuesday at West Malling village hall at 8pm. The Heath Players meet at the East Malling Institute, Mill Street, at 8pm on Fridays.


Malling Rotary meets Tuesdays at 6.30pm at Spadework, Teston Road, Offham. Spadework Farmers’ Market is on the second Saturday of the month from 10am to 1pm at Spadework, Teston Road. For more details, see www.spadework.net. Malling Community Choir meets every Tuesday at West


Malling Baptist Church, 7.15pm to 9.15pm. £2 per adult, children free. Wateringbury Flower Club meets every third Wednesday of the month (with the exception of June) at The Institute Hall, East Malling, doors open at 7.00pm for start at 7.45pm. Malling Stamp Club meets on the second Tuesday of every month at the Clout Institute, West Malling High Street, at 7.30pm. East Malling Women’s Institute meets at the East Malling Institute behind the King and Queen pub on the third Monday of every month, 7.45pm to 9.45pm. Sunday October 21 Andrew and Tessa Wells welcome their neighbours in Mereworth and West Peckham to their Garden Open Day at Mere House, Mereworth, which will open in aid of the National Gardens Scheme on Sunday October 21 between 2.00 and 5.00 p.m. Look forward to an extensive display of flowers, trees and ornamental shrubs for Autumn Colour bordered by the woodland and lake walks. Admission is £5 and children go free. All dogs on leads. Tea and coffee with home-made cakes will be for sale in aid of the maintenance of St Lawrence’s Church. Friday October 26 Halloween Trails: follow the clues around Leybourne Lakes Country Park from 10am to 12pm and find the answers. Please wear fancy dress if you can. Afterwards a trick or treat challenge will be available for those who dare. Meet by the flag pole near the main car park, limited places so please come early. Free event. Friday October 26 Join the Pumpkin Moon Halloween Pumpkin Hunt at St. Mary’s Abbey, West Malling. Open to children aged 3-11 and costs £5 to join. Adults and under 3s are free, but will not be able to collect goodies.


Join the lunch club


EAST Malling is set to host a new Lunch Club that will provide food and a sense of community for locals. The club, which has been funded by the National Lottery Award for All scheme, was set up by Malling Action Partnership to help give both elderly people and people who would often stay at home a place to get together and share each other’s company. Lunch Club, said: “We’ve been running the lunch club for 18 months, but only holding the event once a month. “Thanks to Malling Action Partnership we now have the funding to run once a fortnight at the East Malling Centre. “We have volunteers who will cook great affordable meals, while also offering transportation to and from the centre with plans to start using the Malling Age Concern minibuses. “We are always looking for more volunteers to come down and help.”


The East Malling Lunch Club will begin on September 13 and will run every fortnight at the East Malling Centre.
