Monarfloor® Wall Cap Systems

Whilst Approved Document E (2004) is the default performance requirements for sound insulation in England & Wales, the introduction of The Code for Sustainable Homes saw a stepped change in sound insulation performance, with an improvement of between 5 -8dB over ADE. Since The Code is no longer in existence, and has been replaced by The Home Quality Mark, there is still an emphasis on good sound insulation between dwellings.

When designing buildings where higher sound insulation is required, its commonly accepted that there is only so much that can be done with the direct sound transmission paths, at which point the flanking paths become more dominant, and its required to address these.

Monarfloor Acoustic Systems by BMI Group, have developed a unique patented system offering, which significantly reduce the flanking transmission paths. These are manufactured by modified bitumen, which is well recognised as being the best material for use as ‘elastic interlayers’. These suite of systems are installed at various critical junctions within the build, and reduce the sound transmission by upwards of 8dB. Given they are a nominal 3mm thick, they don’t change the build in any way, and give lots of flexibility in the design which wouldn’t normally be possible given sound transmission paths. This all attributes to some significant cost savings.

Known as Monarfloor®

Wall Cap the systems are marketed as acoustic isolation and energy insulating system for separating party cavity & flanking walls within multirise developments. Monarfloor®

or adjoining walls from the separating floors, reducing the acoustic flanking sound transmission within the structure. Monarfloor®

the integrity of acoustic treatments for party walls and floor. For designers or contractors the key benefits for incorporating Wall Cap are: Reduces the flanking sound transmission energy within the structure. Superior acoustic isolation and damping performance.

Can be used as an isolator / innovative flanking detail with any acoustic flooring treatment.

Easily installed within current standard wall constructions.

Significantly improves the acoustic isolation of the building when used in conjunction with other Monarfloor® and separating floors.

acoustic systems for party & flanking walls

Ensures the robustness of other acoustic systems for party & flanking walls and party floors.

Demonstrates a significant cost saving and flexibility in the design and build of the building.

Surpasses performance requirements of Approved Document E of the Building Regulations.

Can be used to improve the acoustic performance and gain credits towards The Code for Sustainable Homes / Home quality mark.

3-4 cost neutral credits for The Code for Sustainable Homes / Home quality mark when used with other Monarfloor acoustic systems based on PCT test evidence.

Monarfloor has worked with many national and regional house builders and developers, and Wall Cap is now recognised as the only real system to achieve a high level of sound insulation in multirise developments within current UK built details. The systems are also accepted for use in Robust Details as proprietary flanking conditions, and within pre-completion testing it offers many options, not accepted within ADE.
