MEET THE STARS OWENCOOPER & KATIE RICHARDS

CHN’S SASHA MELIA CATCHES UP WITH

www.hoofprintphotos.co.uk

with their string of 20 Event and Dressage horses. Owen and Katie met when

O

they were working pupils at triple Olympic eventing gold medalist Matt Ryan. Katie had grown up in the Bicester Pony Club competing in all area teams. Owen grew up in West Wales and started eventing when he moved to Matt’s. Owen’s top dressage horse,

the impressive black stallion, Don Dante has won and been placed at Small Tour level (PSG and Inter 1) this year and was selected to represent GBR for Hartpury and Hickstead International CDI. Katie’s top dressage horse Riesenstern has been competing at Inter 1 level

wen Cooper and Katie Richards are based at Swalcliffe Park

with several placings this year and is ready to step up to Inter 2 level this month. Both horses will be aimed at Grand Prix next year which is very exciting. Alongside these 2 there are several younger dressage horses on the yard from Novice to Advanced Medium. After a very slow start to the

event season with lots of wet weather, it’s finally nice to be in full swing with the eventing. This year they both have horses competing from BE100 - Advanced level. TJ Blousey Brown and Ridgebarn Ruff will compete at Osberton 2 star this year and hopefully both step up to 3 star next year. It will be nice for Owen, to have a horse back at 3 star level again and exciting for Katie after having a great ride around the Advanced at The Festival of Eventing at Gatcombe to aim Ruff

at some 3 stars. They also have a really nice bunch of younger horses on the yard at the moment that have all had many wins and placings at BE100 and Novice Level this year. When asked which discipline

they both, prefer eventing or the dressage, the answer is clearly “both”! Katie says “To have a super XC round gives you such a buzz but you also get such a thrill sitting on an athletic dressage horse! The only difference is after a dressage show you still look immaculate, after a days eventing you’re filfthy! Also doing the pure dressage really helps with the event horses flat work.” All of the horses do a variety

of work. There are some brilliant hills to trot up around the Swalcliffe area, and all the horses go out in the field daily. They are really settled and happy here.

ONE LUCKY WINNER WILL RECEIVE A LESSON WITH KATIE OR OWEN AT THEIR YARD IN SWALCLIFFE, OXFORDSHIRE. ENTER ON PAGE 78.

Owen and Katie are kindly

sponsored by Topspec and Taylor made forage who keep the horses looking and feeling fabulous. Bareback Laundry for super clean rugs and brilliant repairs, there is a drop off point here at Swalcliffe for anyone needing to get their rugs washed! Other sponsors also include Sheldon Bosley Knight and North Cotswold Construction. The support from these sponsors is hugely appreciated! Owen also enjoys teaching

dressage and eventing. He enjoys teaching a variety of levels and following his clients progress at competitions.
