Belgian Warmbloods – BWP/NAD From Belgium to North America

By BWP/NAD Executive Director Chris Sallee

BWP horses are number one in the world! Our motto is “bred to perform” and that’s exactly what BWP-breds did in 2017—and we are on track for another top finish for 2018.

How We Became Number One During the 2017 international show jumping competition

season, BWP-bred horses dominated the rankings and cata- pulted the BWP registry to the top placing studbook in the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH). In addition, BWP stallion Halifax vh Kluizebos was named the top show jumper in the WBFSH rankings. BWP horses represented six of the top 20 horses in the

rankings, as well as four of the top ten. Tey include Amer- ican-owned and ridden Gazelle and newly approved BWP/ NAD Elite stallion Bull Run’s Faustino.

WBFSH Jumper Rankings for 2017 – BWP Horses #1 Halifax vh Kluizebos (Heartbreaker x Fetiche du Pas) #4 Gancia de Muze (Malito de Reve x Nimmerdor) #7 Eldorado vh Vijverhof (Thunder vd Zuuthoeve x Omar) #8 Gazelle ter Elzen (Kashmir v Shuttershof x Indoctro) #17 Bull Run’s Faustino de Tili (Berlin x Darco)

#20 Garfield de Tiji Des Templiers (Quasimodo Z x Goldspring de Lauzelle)

How has the BWP reached the top spot while only breed-

ing a fraction of the number of foals produced by the other registries? Speaking with several top breeders and riders, in- cluding our very own judge for the BWP/NAD, Boudewijn Schepers, it comes down to one very strong solid fact: the success of the BWP is primarily because we have some of the best dam lines in the world. Tis was achieved by the work of both the stallion own- ers and the breeders who often took advantage of the latest
