MAIDSTONE schools weathered the changes to the way GCSE subjects are learnt and taught to record excellent results across the board.


Most GCSE subjects were re-


formed this year with a fresh grad- ing system, measured from 9 to 1 instead ofA* toG. Invicta Grammar

achieved a “superb” set ofGCSE re- sults,with 65%of all grades 7 to 9 or A/A* grades. Head teacher Julie Derrick said:

tament to their dedication and com- mitment, at a time when we have a great deal of changes in educational reform, with moving grade bound- aries and substantially more rigour in the content of all subjects. “It is a pleasure to see so many

School, just under half the year group gained the top grades of 7 to 9 in five ormoreGCSE subjects. Stand-out performances came

LearningAcademy celebrated their best everGCSEexamination results. Head teacher Paul Murphy said


they reinforced comments in the school’s last Ofsted report that the academywas showing a strong up- ward trend. Some 47% of students achieved a


grade 4-9 in English language, whilst 59% of students achieved a grade 4-9 inEnglish literature, high- lighting a continued improvement on theAcademy’s performance.

particularly notable given the edu- cational climatewhich has seen nu- merous reforms to qualifications. He added: “Each year, the cohort


of students has different abilities and this year our students have, again, exceeded their expected tar- get grades. “Wewish all of our students con-


tinued success andwe are confident that their determination to succeed will enable all of them to continue with their personal journeys. “We believe thatNewLine Learn-


ingAcademy provides awonderful opportunity for students to fulfil their potential in a caring and vi- brant community.” Maplesden Noakes school re-


ported 63% of students achieved grade 4 or above (A*-C) in English, 66% achieved grade 4 or above in maths and67%achievedat least one grade 4 or above in science. Maidstone Grammar School for


Girls has again celebrated a year of excellentGCSE results. The schoolpostedresults showing that 56%of students achievedfive or


more 7-9 (A/A*) grades,with 33 stu- dents achieving 10 or more 7-9 grades. Over 10% of grades on the new


specifications were grade 9 and a special mention goes to Rashmi Knight,who achieved grade 9 in all of her 11 subjects. Head teacher Deborah Stanley


said: “We are extremely pleased to be celebrating the achievements of our year 11 students today.Our girls have risen to the increasedchallenge of the newGCSE specifications and have been very successful. We are very proud of their achievements andlook forwardto the next stage of their education atMGGS.”
