Medical centre plan approved
PLANNINGpermission for a new medical centre atHill FarminCox- heath has been granted by Maid- stone Borough Council. The scheme, which involves the
merger of GreensandHealthCentre andOrchardMedicalCentre inCox- heath on one all-purpose site, has now been approved, according to BrendanCresswell, chairmanofLin- ton parish council. Cllr Cresswell said: “People did
object to the build, but nowthat the plan has been approved there wouldn’t bemuch point. “What is important nowis the lo-
cation of the building and transport to the centre. “There is no timeline at the mo-
ment for the opening of the centre.” Juliette Norton, practice business
manager ofGreensandHealth Cen- tre, told Downs Mail earlier this year: “With nomovement on an al- ternative practice at Clock House Farm Estate and with every cup- board and shoebox being utilised at Greensand,we believe there is noth- ing to lose and a lot to gain fromex-
ploring a new-build atHill Farm.” Residents voiced concerns about
the scheme, saying it is in thewrong place, andthat incorporating aphar- macy and healthy living café on the premises would threaten outlets like Lloyds, in Coxheath. Mick Sloman told Downs Mail:
“There are quite a fewconcerns re- garding the proposal, pavements are either inadequate or non-exis- tent. “The junction at Linton cross-
roads was obviously designed by an idiot who had no conception of the current width of modern vehi- cles. “On the upside, the congestion
caused will stop or slow the traffic so patients can cross the road to the surgery.” MBC considered introducing a
volunteer driven minibus service but there were concerns over who would bear the costs. We approached both Greensand
HealthCentre andOrchardMedical Centre for a comment but neither re- sponded.
