[EDITOR’S NOTE]
Welcome to your July/August issue of Wire Rope Exchange! We are having a very busy summer and from what we hear from our readers we know you are as well. In this issue we’ll visit two companies who are setting the pace for our industry, and we’ll also look at a couple of unusual applications for lifting equipment. In May, we visited the Valdosta, Georgia manufacturing plant for ADB Hoist Rings. As the originator of the hoist ring, ADB has a long history focused on safety and innovation for lifting applications. Tey’ve been located in Valdosta since 2003,
and will soon be completing a facility expansion that will double – or actually slightly more than double – their operating space. For our Cover Feature, we talked with the leadership at ADB about the history of the business, their current focus and how their operation will benefit from the expanded facility. Also note that while ADB stands for American Drill Bushing, they spun off that line of business some time ago to focus exclusively on hoist rings and lifting. We also get to know Piqua, Ohio based PSC Crane & Rigging, a fourth-generation
family owned business. In addition to full-service crane rental, they provide a remarkably wide array of highly specialized lifting, rigging and moving services. Each generation of the Sever family has brought new skills to the business, allowing them to expand their focus and address new opportunities. We always enjoy learning about the remarkable businesses in this industry, meeting the people who make them successful and sharing their stories with you. We also enjoy sharing some of the unusual places where lifting and rigging equipment turns up. How about suspending a flying ship, or performing an animal rescue? You’ll find those stories in this issue as well. It’s worth noting that while the weight involved with entertainment-related lifting projects is often a tiny fraction of the other applications we cover, these projects often involve lifting objects specifically for the purpose of having people under them. Tat keeps safety front and center. Of course, you’ll find the latest industry news and events along with our Product
Catalog here – and you can always see the latest updates by visiting our website at
www.wireropeexchange.com. Please check that out when you’re online, and be sure to tell our Premium Listing members where you found their products! Once again, if you are working on anything you might like to share with our readers, take some pictures and let us know about it. We’re always looking for stories to write about, and we look forward to hearing yours. y
