1ST SUSSEX RIFLE VOLUNTEERS OFFICER’S BLUE CLOTH HELMET C. 1880 - 87, a very fine example, the blue cloth skull complete with all plated fittings, the frontal plate of crowned star pattern with laurel overlay and a circular strap ‘1st Sussex Rifle Volunteers’, in the centre on a ground of dark brown velvet a strung bugle horn, the plate is original to the helmet, buff leather sweat band but lacking silk lining, very good overall condition £400-500

5TH (CINQUE PORTS) BATTALION ROYAL SUSSEX REGIMENT OFFICER’S BLUE CLOTH HELMET AND NAMED CARRYING TIN C. 1908-14, a very fine and rare example, the skull complete with all silver plated fittings, a very fine frontal plate of crowned star pattern with laurel and Garter overlays, in the centre on a ground of red velvet (mothed) a silver cross bearing the enamelled arms of the Cinque Ports all upon the rousillon plume, a scroll at the bottom ‘Royal Sussex Regiment’, buff leather sweatband with scarlet silk attached lining, the plate is original to the helmet, the carrying tin with trade label for ‘J & B Pearse, Covent Garden, W.C’ and brass name plaque ‘T.A.S.Masters Esq. 5th (Cinque Ports) Bn Royal Sussex Regt’, very fine overall condition (2)
