rittany Thadani rescued her first dog when she was three years old. That tradition continues. After numerous debilitating back and shoulder sur- geries, Brittany was forced to give up her job as a veterinary technician. “Rescue saved me,” says Thadani, “because I could no longer do what I loved to do, I felt useless. Then I found rescue.”

In June, 2009, after helping start programs with two other rescue groups, Brittany formed the nonprofit, All Breed Animal Rescue of the Carolinas, or ABARC. Based in Apex, the rescue has a strong support system of foster homes throughout North Carolina.
ABARC has a variety of volunteer opportunities available: • Grant writing: There is a need of volunteers with grant writing experience. Grants make it possible to rescue more high risk and medical cases with- out fear of monetary implications
