Goodwork ethic earns Luke public goodwill

A TEENAGERwhowas in danger of learning that life can be cruel has had his faith restored by the community in Snodland. Luke Wright – a student at

Holmesdale School – had just re- ceived his first week’s wages when he dropped his wallet on his way home on Saturday,April 28. The 15-year-old’s mum, Sophie,

quickly posted a message on The NewSnodland CommunityNeigh- bourhood Watch Group Facebook page, reporting the missing wallet and asking for the public’s help. In the time it tookmother and son

to re-trace the route between their home in Saltings Road and Luke’s new workplace of Petaholics in the High Street, more than 60 people had volunteered to help refund his money. MrsWright said: “Luke had just

landed a weekend job at the pet shop to go with his early morning paper round to save for amoped. “He was devastated to learn that

the £50 he’dmanaged to earn for his efforts had been taken, but has been

so thrilled to receive such support fromthe local community.” They recovered the wallet –

empty – in a litter bin not 10 min- utes fromtheir home. MrsWright said: “It’s been really

overwhelming to see such great community spirit and praise for Luke’s goodwork ethic.” The owner of Petaholics has now

placed a collection box on the counter for anyone elsewhowould

like to help. Luke admitted that he was “dev-

astated”when hediscoveredthat he had lost the wallet, and said: “The worst bit was when we found it empty. “I am really happy and grateful

for all the donations. I’d been clean- ing out cages and sweeping the floors at the pet shop, working all day, so it was so upsetting to lose themoney.”

Street, but could be moved to within the new Co-op store in the old Bull public house at 1 Holbor- ough Road. The consultation started onApril

rently working on rebuilding the interior of the Bull and extending the building. It will be closing its two shops in the High Street and the newstore is planned to open in September.
