What’s On Malling & district clubs, societies & activities


IT IS never too late to make a fresh start by taking up new activities or making new friends. The many clubs and organisations in the Malling Action Partnership area cater for a wide range of in- terests and offer a warm welcome to newcomers, so why not give them a try? Details of regular meetings are listed on this page. Mary Rayner collates our community diary with details of various groups and is also compiling a list of special events in the area in


Sunday May 20 Morgan Cars Talk at Manor Farm, Wateringbury The Friends of Wateringbury Church invite you to see and learn about Morgan Cars at an event hosted by Brands Hatch Morgan. Refreshments will be available. All proceeds help with the upkeep of the village church building and grounds. 2- 4pm, doors open at 1.30pm. Buy your tickets in advance or on the door. Tickets are £5 for adults with children under16 free with an accompanying adult. Saturday May 26


Everyone is welcome to join the RBLI’s FREE summer concerts at the Garden of Honour, Royal British Legion Village, Aylesford 2pm-4pm. Free tea and coffee will be available on the day but please feel free to bring your own picnics. Please bring your own seats and blankets. There is car parking nearby including spaces for disabled drivers. Donations can be made on the day to RBLI. This event is part of a project to find and support older military veterans. Sunday May 27 West Malling Farmers Market. From 9.30am- 1.30pm in West Malling High Street.


Tuesday June 5 Water Voles Walk


Leybourne Lakes Country Park, 8-10am Enjoy a short talk to learn about these elusive animals followed by a walk to watch them. Sorry, no dogs please. Booking essential due to limited places. Book at www.eventbrite.co.uk Meet by the flag pole, near the main car park. This is a free event. Saturday June 9


The Spadework Summer Fair. The perfect family day out. BBQ, food stalls, local produce, licensed bar, craft stalls, raffle, live music, plants, garden centre, café and farm shop.10am-3pm. Saturday June 9 Flower Power Event Leybourne Lakes Country Park, 10.30am- 3.30pm. Find out about wildflowers with fun activities for the children. Including wildflower walks, arts and crafts, face painting, story telling, theatre show, stall holders and live music. Part of the lottery funded ‘Past Plants Future Flora’ project. medwayvalley@kent.uk Follow the signs from the main car park. No booking required. This is a free event.


Local clubs and societies have their regular meetings as follows


East Malling Singers rehearse on Wednesday evenings, 8pm to 10pm, at St James the Great Church, East Malling. Kings Hill Rotary meets every Monday at 7.30pm at the Spitfire pub.


Chip Productions Drama Group meets Fridays at 7.30pm at West Malling village hall.


Malling Photographic Society meets every Tuesday at West Malling village hall at 8pm. The Heath Players meet at the East Malling Institute, Mill Street, at 8pm on Fridays. Malling Rotary meets Tuesdays at 6.30pm at Spadework, Teston Road, Offham. Spadework Farmers’ Market is on the second Saturday of the month from 10am to 1pm at Spadework, Teston Road. Malling Community Choir meets every Tuesday at West Malling Baptist Church, 7.15pm to 9.15pm. £2 per adult, children free. Wateringbury Flower Club meets every third Wednesday of the month (with the exception of June) at The Institute Hall, East Malling, doors open at


7.00pm for start at 7.45pm. Malling Stamp Club meets on the second Tuesday of every month at the Clout Institute, West Malling High Street, at 7.30pm. East Malling Women’s Institute meets at the East Malling Institute behind the King and Queen pub on the third Monday of every month, 7.45pm to 9.45pm. LeyARA meets on the second Thursday of the month at 2pm at the Leybourne Village Hall. Speaker, raffle and refreshments. Crafty Chin-waggers. Craft and chat meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. 19:30 to 23:00 in the Village Hall, Butchers Lane, Mereworth.


Craft and chat group Drop-in. Wednesdays, 10am to noon, East Malling Centre. Malling Art Society meets every Thursday at Offham village hall, 8pm to 10pm.


Malling District U3A Monthly meetings are held at Ryarsh village hall, starting at 2pm, on the fourth Tuesday of the month throughout the year. Baby and toddler group meets every Wednesday at St James the Great, East Malling. Lots of fun for all children and babies. Starts at 1.30pm.
