Retail Enhancing the experience

Digbeth Dining Club

Dining Club shakes up the lunch hour

Brindleyplace is bringing award- winning street food to the city centre with Digbeth Dining Club set to host lunchtime sessions on the estate. From May, Digbeth Dining Club

will be at Brindleyplace at lunchtimes on the second Friday of every month until September, alongside the long-standing local produce markets which will continue to take place on the last Friday of each month. A selection of traders will be in

Central and Oozells Square, offering employees and visitors to the estate a street food alternative for lunch. At each event, Digbeth Dining

Club will be giving visitors the chance to win five free meals to share with friends or colleagues. For more details follow @Brindleyplace on Twitter or like the Brindleyplace Facebook page.

Lucy Burnett, marketing manager at Touchwood, explains why the retail industry must strive to offer an enhanced customer experience as part of its marketing approach if they are to secure share of spend…

There is no doubt that the advent of digital technology has changed the way we shop, with the idea of popping to the shops for a ‘mooch’ or waiting to check out the latest styles as soon as they hit the store even considered old- fashioned by some. With many consumers now

preferring to browse from the comfort of their own sofa, the retail industry must work harder to capture the attention of potential and existing purchasers and ensure it provides relevant reasons to visit and re-visit. With this in mind, we have seen

the rise of ‘shopper-tainment’, with many marketing functions within retail destinations beginning to use the space at their disposal to create a programme of events or entertainment with the specific objective of driving footfall and highlighting their offer. As our new General Manager,

Tony Elvin has already discussed in this issue of Chamberlink, at Touchwood we have always

recognised the importance of creating an enhanced experience that surprises and delights our guests to maintain their loyalty and secure our position as a retail destination of choice. This spring, April saw the launch

of our first-ever mesmerising maze, complete with appearances from

popular children’s characters, while the summer will see the return of our popular Costa del Solihull urban beach. As an industry, we must also

ensure that not only do our experiences meet the ever- changing needs and interests of our guests, but that we take a more personalised approach to raising awareness of them to maximise engagement. Gone are the days when a few press adverts promoting an event will suffice. As much as they are demanding personalised experiences, consumers expect to be reached via a channel and at a time that suits them, whether it be online, through social media, press or broadcast. By utilising a suite of personalised touchpoints, we can maintain more meaningful relationships and generate a stronger impact.
