Kids Food Festival in NYC The 2018 Kids Food Festival will take place on May 12 and 13 at Te Oculus in the Westfield World Trade Center, in Manhattan. Tis event helps in the fight against childhood obesity. Participants will learn about
the importance of achieving bal- ance in food choices through fun activities and sampling family- friendly foods. Tere will be hands-on cooking classes in the James Beard Foundation Future Foodies Pavilion, a Balanced Plate Scavenger Hunt, community performance area, lively enter- tainment, chef demonstrations and kids’ performers. Te goals are to aid in the transformation to balanced eating
habits through education and promotion of sensible food choices; help reduce childhood obesity by nipping it in the bud; generate increased demand for wholesome and balanced options of food- related products through education, sampling and exposure; fa- cilitate collaborations between families, communities, businesses, schools, the public and nonprofit organizations; and support a charity that helps create a healthier food environment for kids.

May is ALS Awareness Month N
onprofit Hope Loves Company
(HLC) hosts Camp HLC, a wonderful op- portunity for children and young adults af- fected by ALS to come together to have fun, make friends and feel less alone in their challenges, from May 18 through 20 at the
Fairview Lake YMCA, in Stillwater Township, New Jersey. Te camp program is free to more than 40 children and grand- children of families affected by ALS in the tri-state area and beyond. It is a sleepover weekend retreat. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a motor neuron
disease that affects our ability to walk, talk, chew and breathe, and progresses over time. Tere is no cure and it is a terminal illness. Children and young adults oſten become caregivers to family members diagnosed with ALS, but there are not many resources or support available to them. HLC is the only organi- zation with the specific mission to help these young caregivers.
