NEWS NPA IN FOCUS
PharMacY fUndIng crISIS nPa members are being reminded that the health and Social care Board (hScB) will be reclaiming £2,500 at the end of april. the advance was offered, at the end of february, due to the ongoing cash flow difficulties that drug shortages are causing.
the pharmacy funding crisis continues to deepen in northern Ireland despite repeated requests from community Pharmacy northern Ireland to the department of health and Social care for a rescue package. concessionary prices are either inadequate, granted late in the month or not granted at all.
Encouraging work is ongoing to enhance the security of community pharmacies. following a survey by the hScB and the police, those pharmacies with a higher-risk profile have been contacted for an on-site visit and direct police support. hScB is bidding for supplementary funding for at risk premises to address issues with cctV, external security and cash handling processes.
gEnEral data ProtEctIon rEgUlatIonS nPa members were invited to a training session aimed at helping them comply with the general data Protection regulation (gdPr), which comes into force on May 25.
the event took place at crowne Plaza hotel, Shaws Bridge, Belfast, on Monday 30 april and was delivered by nPa chief pharmacist, leyla hannbeck. It was open to nPa members and their teams.
community pharmacies teams must be ready to comply with the gdPr. Many concepts and principles of processing personal data under the gdPr are similar to the existing data Protection act (dPa). however, the gdPr will introduce new elements with significantly enhanced requirements regarding data protection.
the nPa has been working closely with other pharmacy organisations as part of the community Pharmacy gdPr Working group which has produced cross-sector guidance resources and these have been adapted for members in northern Ireland.
the nPa has produced a suite of resources to aid gdPr compliance but the training event will: provide an overview of gdPr; help members prepare the pharmacy team for the gdPr; inform members about the resources and templates available to support compliance with gdPr, and; provide an update on nPa activities.
