Diamonds are forever? New release for the UPS sector shakes the market

A leading manufacturer of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems has launched what it calls ‘a groundbreaking new maintenance plan which promises ‘not just an emergency response within a set timeframe, but also a guaranteed fix time too’. UKPN considers the claims behind this latest development.

Data Centre World in London on the 21st- 22nd March, 2018. The critical power protection specialist has introduced the new contract, which commits to having a certified UPS engineer on a customer’s site within four hours of an emergency being reported plus a guaranteed fix inside a further eight hours, to offer customers ultimate insurance against dam- aging downtime, whilst also providing a much-needed shake-up for the sector. Leo Craig, General Manager of Riello UPS, explained: “There are far too many ‘ifs and buts’ with UPS maintenance contracts at the moment. “These involve lofty promises which often

don’t live up to expectations, with a lack of clarity over what’s covered or hugely restrictive terms and conditions. “ He explains: “In many cases the contracts

benefit the provider more than the customer. Unethical practice is a strong accusation to make. But unfortunately, that’s what has been going on across much of the sector. It’s completely unacceptable and it’s something

iello UPS unveiled its premium Diamond UPS maintenance pack- age, a first of its kind for the industry, at the tenth anniversary staging of

we’ll continue to take a stand against.” Similar to Riello UPS’ complete range of maintenance packages, the new plan will give customers 24/7 access to UK-based technical support and be backed up by the business’s comprehensive nationwide stock of spare parts. The Diamond option also includes the advanced cloud-based remote monitoring service Riello Connect. Riello UPS is so confident the new maintenance plan will prove a big hit that it’s even willing to put its money where its mouth is if it is unable to meet its challenging targets. “If we fail to live up to the guarantees we

make, we’ll penalise ourselves and pay money back to the customer. We believe service level agreements should have substance, so if we don’t meet our promises it’s us who face the consequences,” Leo Craig added. As a corollary, Riello UPS recently

introduced its NextEnergy, the innovative transformer-less, three-phase UPS range with VFI SS 111 double conversion technology, IGBT converters and three-level control, designed to meet power require- ments of the future. The state-of-the-art technology and the careful selection of high quality components

contribute to NextEnergy's "best in class" performances: the unit power factor (kVA = Kw) and ease of supervision make it the ideal solution for electrical continuity of any "mission critical" application. The reduced UPS footprint, the ease of connection from top to bottom, and full front-end accessibility for all maintenance activities ensure optimal space utilisation and allows wall-mounted back-to-back installation. NextEnergy can be installed in systems

with limited input power, such as diesel gen- erators or other energy sources subject to contractual restrictions and delivering the additional power required by the batteries (Peak Shaving). The 7"colour touch screen LCD display, communication slots, relay boards and specific service connectors simplify the configuration, control and supervision of the UPS by making NextEnergy perfectly integral with infrastructure management systems Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) and an ideal solution for the electrical continuity of any IT application. www.riello-ups.co.uk
