greatway to keep in touchwith readers. I regularly post on Facebook and Twitter, although I do find that I havemore conversations on Facebook. My readers are such a loyal and supportive bunch of people, and I don’t think Iwould know this if itwasn’t for socialmedia. I suppose Imight get the occasional letter or email, but itworks bothways – people can comment on something that I post, or on one of my books, and I can respond to them quickly.Others can join in. As a result of this interaction, I hold

a Facebook Party each time I have a newbook out. It’smyway of thanking mywonderful readers for their support – and it is amazing how many people join in to enter contests andwin simple, but hopefully fun, prizes.

Doyou have anywriting ritualsor rules? When I’mwriting a newnovel, I do try towrite every day.Because there is somuch else to do as an author – such as attending to the needs of socialmedia, asmentioned above, but also dealingwith contracts, accounts, and so on – I normally attend to the admin a couple of mornings aweekwhenmy PAcomes into the office. And then I dedicate my afternoons towriting. I setmyself a target early on –

because it’s so easy to decide that I need a ‘thinking day’ andwrite nothing. Thatway Iwould soon lose sight ofmy (self-imposed) deadline. I don’t always achieve the daily goal, but if I fail, Imake a point of trying to catch up over the next fewdays.

Doyou have anybook tours/signingsor events linedup this year? I do. I love getting out tomeet

readers, and I have a publicistwho does a great job arranging events in libraries and book shops. We’re only just getting started for this year, but currently I have a trip toNorwich planned formid-March to speakwith thewonderfulClareMackintosh, and then inApril I head to London and then theNorthWest, where Iwill be joining SharonBolton for amini-tour. I love Sharon’s books, and I’mreally looking forward to that. InMay, I amtravelling to

Newcastle-upon-Tyne,which is handy becausemy step-daughter lives there so it’s a chance to see her and her family – and therewill be other events later in the year. The bestway to check these out is

viamywebsite or blog –whenwe have the dates,we try tomake sure they are always posted. www.rachel-abbott.com(website) www.rachelabbottwriter.com(blog)
