If you’ve not heard of Maidstone River Park, pencil it in your diary for a visit in 2018.
Centred on a 12km stretch of the river in the heart of Kent’s county town, it nets an impressive haul of reasons to head down to the water this summer. The River Park - a millennium legacy project – has hooked the support of not only the National Lottery, but volunteers and visitor attractions supporting the idea of using the towpath alongside the
River Medway to link nature with the area’s natural and historic highlights in a traffic-free format that is perfect for walkers and cyclists.
WATERFRONT ATTRACTIONS
The park extends from Teston Country Park to Aylesford, taking in Maidstone’s historic town centre and iconic buildings including the Archbishop’s Palace;
RIVER PARK MAIDSTONE
Allington’s castle, marina and lock and the popular Kent Life attraction, with its collection of farm animals and rescued Kent buildings. It’s also home to the Gallagher Stadium, Lockmeadow Centre and Whatman Park, all of which are on the towpath trail.
A tranquil backwater for those looking to relax, as well as a haven for wildlife, the route provides multiple points where users can re-join the route after calling at attractions such as Maidstone Museum,
