idcoast Lyme Disease Support & Education (MLDSE) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that serves the needs of Maine's Lyme com- munity. As a partner of the na- tional Lyme Disease Association, their efforts are focused on raising awareness, fostering education, advocating for state and local change while providing resources

M

and support to those affected by Lyme and tick-borne diseases. As members of Maine's CDC Vector-borne Work group, they bring the voice of Maine's Lyme community to the table and remain active in Maine's Lyme legislation movement.

Active year round they hold monthly support meetings, aware-

ness events, prevention talks, quarterly educational workshops for medical providers and yearly Lyme Disease conferences where they bring in local and nationwide expert speakers and vendors. They are the recipients of national and local educational grants, three years in a row, for their steadfast commitment to public awareness and community education and support.

President and Co-Founder of MLDSE, Paula Jackson Jones, a

native of Nobleboro, is a survivor of Late Stage Neurological Lyme Disease complicated by four co-infections ~ Babesia, Bartonella, Erlichiosis and Rocky Mountain Spotted fever, who went into remis- sion in April 2014 after a lengthy battle of misdiagnosis by twenty three doctors. It was during her own battle that she noticed a need for information and connection to resources in the Midcoast area among those suffering from Lyme and tick-borne disease. She was introduced to Angele Rice, another Lyme survivor who lives in Bath and in May 2014, they co-founded Midcoast Lyme Disease Support & Education. It was through their own personal journeys that they gathered resources to share with those around them. Their educa- tion and backgrounds in counseling and crisis management training combined with firsthand experience with tickborne diseases and what a Lyme patient goes through has made them the perfect go-to resource for this community.

On Saturday April 28th, they will be hosting their 4th Annual Midcoast Lyme Disease Support & Education conference at the Augusta Civic Center from 8:00am-5:00pm. Admission is free to all who attend and more information can be found at http://conference2018.mldse.org/

For more information about MLDSE, symptoms list, referrals for diagnosis, current treatment guidelines, prevention, state of Maine Lyme laws and physician education as well as all their state-wide events and talks, visit www.mldse.org

Midcoast Lyme Disease Support & Education is available year round for prevention and educational talks and events. If you need help or would like to request a prevention talk or event, please email info@mldse.org. See ad on page 19.
