Stuart receives R&A Gold Scholar Award at BTME
Stuart Yarwood becomes only the seventh recipient of the highly acclaimed award
The R&A are the global governing body for golf outside the United States and Mexico. Each year, they invest a large amount of time and money in training people all over the world. Currently, they support golf programmes at fifteen universities, and award around 100 individual Foundation scholarships.
The programme was established in 2004 to provide support and assistance to students enrolled in professional turf management qualifications.
The scholarship enables students to visit different parts of the world for opportunities to assist greenkeeping teams at various events. It also gives them the chance to network within the
community and create contacts that will help them throughout their careers.
In recognition of helping to facilitate the programme, Stuart Yarwood, Amenity Land Solutions’ Technical Sales Area Manager for Cheshire and North Wales, was presented with the Gold Scholar Award. The award is highly acclaimed within the industry, and Stuart is one of only seven people in the world to be presented with this accolade.
As an active member in the greenkeeping industry and network, promoting sustainability and traditional greenkeeping values, Stuart regularly likes to give back to a community that has supported him throughout his twenty‐five year career.

Five years ago, his involvement in the community, plus his knowledge and experience in the greenkeeping industry, led him to be invited to sit on the interview panel. Along with Dr Stuart Brown and Wendy Cole, and in conjunction with the R&A and Myerscough College, he helps to interview applicants for the scholarships each year.
Stuart explains; “We interview them on issues like sustainable golf course management and their employment experience and industry involvement. The scholarship is a great experience for anyone wanting to get ahead
in greenkeeping, so I like to support and encourage the younger generations coming into the industry by helping them to get started.”
The Gold Scholar Award
recognises Stuart’s commitment to the industry throughout his career, from being a Head Greenkeeper to helping and advising new scholarship students with the R&A. Understandably, he is immensely proud of this achievement, and wants to continue encouraging young people to get into the industry through this programme.
