Share your local stories on social media

On 1 December 2017, Marie Curie relaunched regional Twitter accounts and hospice Facebook pages. Around 30 representatives from Caring Services and Fundraising are helping to share stories from their local areas, bringing Marie Curie to life for followers. Rebecca Fishwick, Community

Fundraiser, is helping to run the account for the Marie Curie Hospice, Newcastle. She said: “I feel so lucky to be able to share our supporters’ experiences of Marie Curie on our Newcastle hospice Facebook page. We give them a voice and bring their stories to life, inspiring others to support our work.

“We recently posted a status about

Phil from County Durham, who completed the Yorkshire Marathon for Marie Curie. Care from our nurses enabled his mam to die at home and Phil wanted to give something back. The post reached almost 5,000 people and Phil was so touched. As fundraisers we don’t forget these stories, they help us to strengthen our message, and make it local and real.”

The social media reps would love you to get in touch with your local stories. Find your rep on the Digital page on the intranet or email social.media@mariecurie.org.uk

Fresh look for patient rooms in Belfast

Eighteen patient rooms at the Marie Curie Hospice, Belfast have been given a facelift by the hospice’s maintenance team. Completing the works in-house rather than hiring contractors has saved around £1,100 per room. The team of three – Andy Dealy, Sam

Clarke and James Doak – took on the project of fully refurbishing the rooms to give them a more modern feel. This included repainting, varnishing, stripping out old units, installing new skirting, removing tiles from behind the sinks, making new Formica splash backs from scratch, and supervising the replacement of the floors.

you’re enjoying what you do – you don’t realise. I get up every morning and I want to come to work. “It’s frightening to think that I’ve been the manager here for so long but it’s because I’m so committed to the charity and I think you’ve got to have a passion for what you do. Our wonderful volunteers wouldn’t be here if they didn’t have that passion and commitment.”
