BUNGAY & Beccles Taekwon- do Clubs held their last belt grading of the year on December 16th 2017. A very large group of students

attended the last grading for the year, and were put through their paces, being assessed on all their Taekwondo skills, and success- fully being promoted to their respective new belt rankings. All students demonstrated great enthusiasm and endurance dur- ing the four hour grading where a range of techniques, patterns, self-defence, sparring and destruction were all tested alongside Korean terminology. GTUK Examiner Mr Steve King 6th Degree, said that standards were excellent and they were all a credit to the region and their instructors, and all students worked really hard but enjoyed every moment, adding to the success of both the family orien- tated clubs from Beccles and Bungay. The grading was then fol-

lowed by an end of year party and presentation evening for new belts and student awards, held at Broome Village Hall. This included the promotion to 1st Degree Black Belt for Bec- cles Mr Gary Wheeler who suc- cessfully passed his destruction test on the grading day. Students and their families then enjoyed

Panto Competition Winner

I WAS surprised and delight- ed to hear that I had won the competition in the Community News for four tickets to The New Wolsey Theatre produc- tion of the Rock and Roll Panto Red Riding Hood. It was such a treat for me and my husband and our two daughters. We had fabulous seats right in the mid- dle and joined in all the fun and singing. The New Wolsey is such a

fabulous venue, easy to get to and parking for just £2 after 6pm couldn’t be better! The Wolf had a fabulous voice

and Milly the saucy dame with all his/her innuendos was hys- terical. We knew the words to all the music and along with the dodgy jokes, the variety of entertainment just kept going for the whole evening. A very impressive show which was more like a musical with panto undertones, very modern but good fun for all ages. We had a fabulous evening thank you so much.

Second Year Anniversary At The Gillingham Swan

HAVING taken over in Decem- ber 2015, Jon and Lisa Cobby are now well in to their third year at the Gillingham Swann and are delighted with how the business has grown. Behind the bar is where you

will find Jon, offering a warm welcome to all comers. With Jon looking after the bar, Lisa takes care of the restaurant and gen- eral administration. The hus- band and wife team are joined by a close knit team of staff who Jon describes as being more like an extended family than work colleagues. This close working relationship only helps add to the already relaxed and inviting atmosphere. As a free house you will find a

great mix of ale, lager, spirits, soft drinks and tea and coffee behind the bar. This is also com- plemented by a superb wine menu offering excellent choice and value for money. The kitchen is run by Head

Chef, Duncan. Duncan has designed a menu offering tradi- tional British dishes. Everything is cooked in-house and fresh to

order and Duncan takes great pride in turning out good look- ing and great tasting food. The menu changes seasonally to ensure the best fresh local pro- duce is used and there is a selec- tion of daily specials offering something different. With the regular menu giving

lots of different options through- out the week, the Gillingham Swan has become famous for their Sunday Carvery. Sunday in the UK means roast dinner and the Swan has established a superb reputation for offering an excellent Sunday carvery. As with all food, everything is cooked from scratch and the gravy is made over a number of days using the bones and trim- mings to create a ‘proper’ gravy! Naturally this is hugely popular and the carvery is served all day between noon and 7pm. To avoid disappointment or if you are with a group of six or more, please call ahead to book. With great food and drink this

is a pub with everything going for it. However, there are also
