THE AGM is being held for members only on Monday 5th February with doors opening at 6.45pm for a 7.15pm start. The first part of the meeting will be the cheque presentation to repre- sentatives from the Chairman's two chosen charities, Cancer Research UK and Action Medi- cal Research followed by a short talk given by a representative of Canine Partners. The AGM will be held after the refreshment break. The AGM is an ideal opportunity to find out what the club has achieved over the past year, ask questions and perhaps give suggestions for future events. This should be a very interesting evening and we hope as many members as possible will come along, not only to find out the new committee but also to listen to what will, I am sure, be a fascinating talk. The meet- ing will be held in the Emmanuel Rooms, Boyscott Lane, Bungay, NR35 1DG.

Retiring Committee Members Receive Club Accolade
BUNGAY Camera Club’s annu- al general meeting on December 13th 2017 saw three key mem- bers of the club’s committee retire after serving a four-year tenure – the maximum allowed under the club’s rules. Robert Taylor, Chairman,
Brian Philpott, Treasurer, and Edward Lynch, Publicity Offi- cer, are stepping down after playing key roles in helping to revitalise and expand the club’s activities since 2014. In grati- tude for their services, the club’s membership presented each of them with vouchers and gifts. A special award was made to
Robert Taylor, in recognition of the vision and energy that he has brought to the position of Chair- man. Mr Taylor has been a prime mover in introducing new activities to the Camera Club and in building it into a strong
community participant in Bun- gay. As an expression of their gratitude, the club’s member- ship has awarded him the dis- tinction of Honorary Life Member. The gifts and awards were
presented to the three retirees by incoming Chairman, Peter Nixon. He told the annual gen- eral meeting:- “Our retiring chairman of course receives a special mention, but he has been energetically and ably support- ed by our other two retiring committee members. Their able and enthusiastic work has been a key factor in the transforma- tion and revitalisation of Bun- gay Camera Club over the past four years”. Bungay Camera Club meets
twice monthly and always wel- comes new members, whatever their experience and ability.

As far as village pubs go, they don’t get much more quintes- sentially Suffolk than the Half Moon at Rushall. This glorious old pub is now under the new
ownership of Sara Campbell- Jones and Ray Paul. The couple collected the keys in September and opened at the end of November follow- ing an extensive refurbishment, before serving their first meals on December 1st when they opened the kitchen. Ray had recently retired from the London Fire Service, so they were looking for a fresh challenge. But, this does not mean they do not know the area. In fact, they know it very well. Sara’s family used to farm in Billingford, so she has always been familiar with this

pub. The pub has been completely redecorated and refurbished throughout. The couple also opened up a snug which was previously unused. This is lo- cated just behind the huge open fire and is the perfect place to relax with your favourite drink whilst reading the paper. Along with the public bar and restaurant, the Half Moon has seven letting rooms which are undergoing similar renovations and will be ready for use in February. As a freehold, Sara and Ray are not tied to any one supplier or brewery. As a result, you will find a good selection of drinks including local favour- ites. One area Sara has been keen to focus on is service. In the two months they have been open they have received many compliments on just how po- lite, friendly and knowledge- able the staff are. Sara explains that it should be an experience to visit your local pub and whether you are stopping for a
quick coffee, or relaxing in the bar with friends at the end of a long week, you will receive the same great service. Food is ever more important in our village pubs and this has not been over-looked here. The kitchen has had a com- plete re-fit with new equipment throughout. From the shiny new kitchen Head Chef, Jake, has put together a lovely menu of pub classics along with an ever-changing seasonal spe- cials board. Everything is made from scratch, included freshly baked bread every day! Again, as with drinks in the bar, dining should be an occa- sion. The tables are not turned throughout a sitting so once you are sat down the table is yours, there is no rush, custom- ers are free to sit and chat and enjoy the atmosphere and com- pany all night. Sara and Ray are overwhelmed by the support and positive feedback and comments they have had from the local com- munity. Their vision of creat-
annual Carol Service held at Emmanuel on Sunday 10th December raised £50 for our two chosen charities this year. Emmanuel Annual Gift Ser-
vice Morning Worship on Sun- day 17th December. The two charities which we chose to sup- port this year were ‘Excellent – Pioneers of Sand Dams’ and the Catherine Bullen Memorial Fund. The direct appeal from the church raised £719.03. Christmas Eve Services.
Emmanuel’s own Annual Carol Service led by Revd Jacquie Evans with music provided by the Waveney Valley Brass Ensemble raised the amazing total of £275.07 which after expenses for the band and refreshments, left £198.75 for the funds. This was an amazing- ly generous donation from the people of the town who attended the service and we are extremely grateful to them for their sup- port. In addition, ‘Rosedale’ donated £25 from their Memo- rial Service which was held at Emmanuel on December 10th. This therefore made the total
of £992.78 for our charities this year. The church has now round- ed this up to £1000, so a cheque for £500 is now winging its way to each charity. Well done everyone! and a very Happy New Year to
you all. Stay happy and healthy in
God’s loving care and do come and join us, 10.45am on most Sundays. Please check our nice new notice board to the front of the church.
ing a community hub is being realised as more and more peo- ple from the area discover the new Rushall Half Moon. The couple are already think- ing about the future. There is a pizza oven and large children’s play area due to be completed in time for summer. As you would expect, the Half Moon is family and dog friendly so is the ideal place to start or finish a walk with your four-legged friends. Sara and Ray are clearly here for the long haul and plan to in- troduce live music in the com- ing months which will lead on to a beer and music festival in the summer. Please keep an eye out or ask for further details nearer the time. Pubs are a crucial part of our rural communities and it is lovely to see this beautiful pub being given a new lease of life.
