Head teacher Gary Anscombe and pupils are proud of their Good school re- port fromOfsted inspectors

School’s report is just ‘perfect’

LUNSFORD Primary School had the “perfect end” to 2017 after maintaining their “good” rating fromOfsted. Head teacher Gary Anscombe

was thrilled after the school, which he joined in April 2016, was again rated highly by school inspectors. And he believes they have the

steps in place to ensure that they manage to secure an “outstanding” mark next time around. “I’m really pleased,” Mr

Anscombe said. “We’ve allworked hard tomaintain the status and it is well deserved for everyone here. “We’ve improved on things that

were mentioned in the last inspec- tion and I thinkwe have the build- ing blocks in place to make sure that next timewe are even better. “But this is the perfect end to the

year for us.” The report praisesMrAnscombe

for ensuring that the “quality of teaching and learning has contin-

ued to improve” since his arrival at the school, and also praised posi- tive results at both key stage 1 and key stage 2,with standards in read- ing, writing and maths all above the national average. The school has recognised a need

to improve the accuracy of spelling, while both parents and pupils asked by the inspectors spoke highly of the school and its desire to help children achieve theirmax- imumpotential. “It reflects the good teamwork

we have here,” Mr Anscombe added. “The children are brilliant, they are so well behaved – and the parents are great too, they support us sowellwith fundraising. “We’ve joinedwith other schools

in the area for a collaborative effort and I think that has also helped us. “We’ve come a longway and I’m

looking forward to a bright future.” The school was also praised for its safeguarding efforts.

Learning – the Victorianway

PUPILS spent a day living as Victorian children as part of a school project. The children fromyears 4, 5

and 6 at Trottiscliffe Primary School enjoyed – and at times endured – a day their peers 150 years ago would have

experienced. They began with a trip to Ditton Heritage Centre’s Victorian classroom, where they learned the three R’s and all about the unsavoury punishments dished out to pupils. They later returned to school

andmade candles, baked bread, played Victorian parlour games and ate a gruel-inspired stew, before bunking down in the school hall. The next day began with thin

porridge for breakfast, before a task of writing a newspaper as if it were Victorian times. Head teacher Lisa Henderson

said: “Events like these help the children immerse themselves in a historical period andmake the learning experience dynamic and memorable. “The response fromthe

children and parents has been really positive,” she added.
