General Commercial Casting The general commercial casting is the main part of the investment casting industry in the Chinese mainland. Most castings are for overseas market, including automobile, general machine parts, pump, valve, hardware and so on. In 2017, casting orders are strong and the total output value is up 8% from 2016 to US$2.02 billion. At


present, environmental protection is also the most concern of foundries in this sector. The Chinese government is determined to implement more stringent environmental protection measures. Some small foundries have no capacity to control pollution to meet the environmental requirements and

Labor cost is another key factor


affects the general commercial casting industry in China. As the living standards of Chinese people rise, so does the wages of labor. Companies have to pay more to hire the enough workers.


Reducing the number of


employee and making more use of mechanical equipment is an important issue for industry concerned. The rise of raw materials and competition among emerging markets in southeast Asia are also challenges for China’s general commercial casting industry. There are positive factors certainly


in Chinese mainland. China has formed a complete industrial system, which can fully guarantee the healthy development and has strong anti-risk ability. China has a large number of technicians in foundries and they have great potential in technological innovation. In addition, China is now the world’s second largest economy,


with GDP


growing at around 7% by year. The domestic huge market provides more and more opportunities for the future development of investment casting industry not only in China, but also in the world.


Combined with high value-added castings and general commercial castings, the total output value of colloidal silicate shell process in 2017 was US$2.78 billion, up 9.5% from 2016 (see Figure). Considering the particularity of the sodium silicate shell process, its output value was not counted.
