TOM OF FINLAND Join The LGBTQ Center of Long Beach, Long Beach QFilm Festival, Art Theatre Long Beach, and Mr. Long Beach Leather for a special reception and screening of the filmTom of Finland. Learn the story of one of the 20th century’s most influential figures of the early LGBTQ movement, as envisioned by award- winning filmmaker Dome Karukoski. Artist Touko Laaksonen, known to the world as Tom of Finland, crafted beautifully drawn, erotic and taboo-shattering depictions of testosterone filled, muscle-bound men. His images are world-renowned, but little is known of the man behind the drawings, so come watch and learn of his struggle, his perseverance and his courage, mirrored by much of the gay liberation movement, for which his leather- clad studs became a defiant emblem.Tom of Finland takes placeWednesday, January 10 at 7 p.m. with a 6 p.m. pre-show reception inside The Art Theatre Long Beach, 2025 E. 4th Street.
