The company’s primary role is to collect, analyse and interpret environmental data to inform our clients and help them to fulfil their obligations. TIM has created a real- time link between ecologists and environmental specialists, project managers and clients through the immediate transfer of information from our field survey sites to the office via fast and secure data connections.
VERSATILITY
TIM can be a used on all environments, including terrestrial, coastal and estuarine. Windfarm and cable route projects can benefit greatly from TIM, as it can be a useful tool to co-ordinate surveys and analyse and display the results in their spatial context. It can be used to plan surveys for onshore situations where land ownership may be an issue – clearly highlighting accessible and inaccessible areas. It can also be used on offshore windfarm projects to show
how the proposed windfarm sites may interact with protected zones or populations of marine wildlife.
ILLUMINATED RIVER PROJECT The system has recently used on the Illuminated River project, a commission launched by the Illuminated River Foundation to illuminate 15 of central London’s bridges. Initial surveys to identify the potential for protected species
of birds and bats were undertaken by the Wildlife Trust and Thomson Ecology along the length of the river from Tower Bridge in the east to Albert Bridge in the west.
With surveyors using handheld mobile mappers for data collection, the survey results were displayed on the system as they were collected, enabling our client to track the progress of the surveys real-time, facilitating the early identification of any issues that might impact on the planning process. TIM also assisted with consultation throughout the project, ensuring all project stakeholders were referring to the same datasets when interpreting the results and making decisions.
