At Holland Boat in Belfast the newest boat launched was the 32-footer SAVING GRACE, powered with a gasoline engine, which was built for a local fi sherman.
these repairs could take upwards of three months to complete.
Samoset Boat Works in Boothbay is
fi nishing out a 48 foot Mussel Ridge hull as a split wheelhouse lobster boat for a fi sherman from Northeast Harbor. She is powered with a 800-hp medium continuous duty Scania, which is already in place. They are now working on her structure underneath the platform which includes a hold for 12 crates of lobsters, a massive rope locker, and tankage.
Dan’s Boat Shop in Friendship is refur-
bishing a Northern Bay 36 pleasure boat for an out-of-state customer. Some of the work included: adding the starboard side to the house which was formally canvas; extended the roof of the house; modifi ed the stern; moved the fuel tanks under the deck; added a tuna door, swim platform, bowsprit and windlass. Presently they are working in the head and just needed to hang the door before they install a ladder on the swim platform. This boat will be done and launched later in October. Next, they may have another 36 to redo
from New Hampshire or they might have a Mussel Ridge 46 to fi nish off . Out in the yard is MISS TRENIA, a
Repco 30, which was in to have a used 210-horsepower Cummins put in. She also received a new shaft, boxes and exhaust system. She was launched the second week of October. Before this project they fi nished out a
Mussel Ridge 40, which was fi nished out as a commercial boat for a fi sherman from Long Island, New York. She was powered with a
John Deere diesel engine and the only thing down below was a V-berth.
At Artisan Boat Works in Rockport they have several potential customers com- ing to look at the 1903 Bar Harbor 31 called JOKER. She has been moved from Seal Cove Boat Yard in Brooksville to Artisan. It is hoped that one of these interested parties will opt to restore this classic. A new storage building is almost com-
plete. This building is 120 x 50 feet and is currently waiting for its doors. Already the building is full of storage customers. Another change at the yard is the addi-
tion of a new paint bay with wall lighting and radiant heat. This project is nearly complete. Currently in the shop is a tender for a
130 foot motor yacht. They are doing cos- metics, adding a swim ladder and a bimini. They are also making deck boxes and out- door seating.
Seal Cove Boat Yard in Brooksville
has over 225 boats to haul out every fall and have already 75 percent of them up and ready for the winter. They now have 23 days to haul approximately 45 boats as they hope to be fi nished by the 10th
of November. At
that point they will begin hauling their fl oats some of which are already up on the hard. Another major project which will be
fi nished shortly is there new paint shop. The new shop is 44 x 64 with combination radiant heat in the walls. This will create stratifi ed heat, this heats from the waterline up, which is great for wooden boats. The fl oor also has radiant heat if needed. Pouring the concrete
