intelligence A hassle-free SUV

REVIEW:PEUGEOT 5008 SUV BY SUE COOKE

PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE

Middle-age drivers are the age group who regularly swap their car for a newer model, seeking the latest technology and performance features, says online motor retail specialists BuyaCar.co.uk. Almost 1,000 motorists were quizzed on their attitudes to car ownership and people in their mid-40s to mid- 50s look for the best experience with the minimum of hassle. Which is what the all-new Peugeot 5008

offers. The large seven-seater SUV is breaking new ground with the latest generation Peugeot i-Cockpit which was first launched on the 2017 ‘European Car of the Year’ the 3008 SUV.

Most of the new cars I road test

The 5008 has the biggest boot capacity in its class ‘The 5008

have amazing technology, but the 5008 has a plethora of impressive high-tech comfort and safety features. The seven-seater was launched as an MPV in 2009 so is on a par with many people carriers but has lost the boxy design and arrives with a contemporary stylish look. The interior is where the remarkable technology

has a plethora of impressive high-tech comfort and safety

features’

starts with graphics and animation, musical ambience settings, 3D satellite navigation and even a fragrance diffuser. There is the usual Mirror Link and Apple car play technology and a touch screen angled towards the driver. The digital display sits above the steering wheel.

There is 38 litres of storage space inside the roomy

cabin which has body hugging front seats and a large panoramic opening glass roof. Rear seats incline and the second row of seats will accommodate three separate child seats. The floor between the front and second row is completely flat, giving good leg space.

at 1060 litres. Wave a foot under the rear bumper and the tailgate will open. A cover then unrolls and drops down over the bumper to prevent trousers or legs getting dirty. The third row of seats are easily removed, weighing just 11 kilos each, leaving a completely flat boot space. A low sill also makes loading the boot easier. You know the total sum you are paying with the 5008, because most of the features are standard where in much of the competition, they are added extras. They include window blinds and electric child locks and rather unusually, a full spare wheel which sits under the car boot. The 5008 is the third SUV which

Peugeot has launched over the last 18 months, following the 2008 and 3008. The SUV sector is growing and perhaps our increasing wet weather has something to do with it. I certainly feel safer when driving an SUV and I like the commanding view of the

road ahead. There is a long list of safety technology such as the automatic emergency braking system and there is advanced grip control and Hill Assist Descent Control, for those off-road moments. Buyers can choose the award-winning PureTech

petrol or the BlueHDi diesel engines. There are four petrol engines with CO2 emissions as

low as 117g/km and six diesel engines with CO2 emissions from 106g/km. Deliveries will start mid-November and Peugeot

expects to sell 44% to the fleet market. And whatever the age group, swapping the car for a newer model, with the latest technology is a safe, practical move, whatever the age group.
