Knowledge is Power Nicola Griffiths

Being the owner of a clinic can have some interesting moments!

NIcola Griffiths, Hypnotherapist

Over the three yearswe’ve had the clinic, I’ve had newtherapists approach me who are truly passionate about what they do yet I’ve never heard ofthe therapies con- cerned. So imagine whatIwas thinking when a lovely lady came in and said she wasa‘Macrobiotic Counsellor’.

If this had happened in the first fewmonths of the clinic’slife Iwould havesaid “Oh yes” and wait forthem to continue in the vain hope thatapennywoulddrop. I’ve discovered pen- ny droppingmoments can befew and farbetween, so now I’mabit wiser and Isimplyask “What’sthatthen”?

The answerturned out to be rather interesting, infactit’s quite fascinating, especiallyifyou have health issues. It’s all aboutdeveloping apersonal awareness aroundwhich foods arerightfor you. This can belife-changing if you takeitse- riously as abalanced Macrobiotic dietiswidely reported to offer significant health benefits. This includes preventing, and in some cases reversing, the onsetofmanydegenerative diseases by strengthening the body’s ownnatural defence mechanism.

In the pastI’ve had to get my brain around BowenThera- py;Craniosa- cral (and no I don’t mean Cranial Oste- opathy) and whatReflexology actually does? Isuppose it’s no differentto people who think thatasaHypnotherapistI swing apocket watch –Ifind thathighly amusing!

CirencesterHypnotherapy Centre, Dyer Street

Knowledge ispower though. When I started out as aClinical Hypnotherapist10yearsago,neuroscience wasway ahead of me in understanding the power ofthat particular thera- py.I’venowcaughtupwith understanding howpowerful this form of therapycan be, but I’mstill learning about the world of therapyin general as there’sone heckofalot to learn.

So the next therapistthatwalksin talking tome about some- thing Iknow nothing about, I’ll be putting the kettle on and sitting them down. I’ve discovered to my benefit thatkeeping an open mind pays off bigtime.

Nicola Griffiths heads up ateam of solution focused hypnotherapists at CirencesterHypnotherapy & Health Centrein DyerStreet.
