Pond used as dumping ground by fly-tippers


NEW bins and a call on villagers to report fly-tippers has been is- sued following complaints about the “disgusting state” of the vil- lage pond inMarden. DownsMailwas sent this picture


by a disgruntled residentwho said: “This is the pond adjacent to the playing field in Marden and close to the newhousing developments. “It is disgusting. Rubbish is regu-


larly thrown into the pond and in the surrounding area, and when there is a football match, plastic bottles and rubbish are left on the playing field. “Where the responsibility lies is


unknown. But, it is a disgrace to the whole village that this situation is allowed to continue.” Downs Mail approached the


parish council, which says it is aware of the problemandwill act. Parish clerk Alison Hooker said:


“Marden Parish Council is respon- sible for the playing field and our caretaker regularly litter picks the play area, football pitch and sur- rounding area. The area between the playing field boundary and the

PCSO stops man in van


A MAN has been arrested in connection with a theft after being stopped by a member of the Special Constabulary in the early hours of themorning. The volunteer officer ordered


a Renault Master van, which was reported to have been act- ing suspiciously in Yalding, to stop at 1.20am in Hampstead Lane on Tuesday, October 17. A subsequent search of the


vehicle led to the seizure of a lawn mower, five car batteries and gardening tools. The driver, a 29-year-oldman
