INNOVATION IN

PHARMACY PRACTICE ENTRY CAN BE BY NOMINATION OR BY PERSONAL APPLICATION.

As its name suggests, the Innovation in Pharmacy Practice Award’s principal aim is to reward any form of innovative practice in today’s pharmacy. That broad remit could include innovation in the use of technology to promote quality, safety and efficiency in community pharmacy; the development of an innovative project which benefits patients; or innovative collaboration with other healthcare support teams.

The judging panel will be looking for any form of innovative work or practice that produced positive outcomes for patients.

WHO CAN ENTER? This award is open to all pharmacists and their teams, who have embraced innovative practice with the aim of improving the delivery of pharmaceutical care, promoting patient safety, and improving efficiency.

GENERAL AWARDS CRITERIA

• Enthusiasm and commitment to the enhancement of community pharmacy in Scotland

• Exceptional quality above and beyond what is expected • An ability to overcome challenges in pursuit of goals

• Evidence of how performance was measured and benchmarked in addition to proof of project success/improved patient outcomes.

JUDGES WILL BE LOOKING FOR: • Activities that may involve pioneering new technology/eHealth models or systems that will reinforce pharmacists’ impact as members of the healthcare team in general and will improve patient safety and outcomes in particular.

• Evidence of the development of a project, system or innovative way of working that can be used in community pharmacy, which will directly impact patient care and will provide a template for use throughout the profession.

• Proof of measurable benefits of any model, system or initiative. As such, statistics will be required, which will clearly evidence any added value, benefit, or productivity increase created by the adoption of the new system, practice or tool. Where possible, financial data should also be provided, such as percentages, ratios and graphic images, to back up evidence of improved

patient outcomes.

On behalf of Positive Solutions and Willach, we would like to extend a very warm welcome to you all, and to say how proud we are to support another successful year at the Scottish Pharmacist Awards.

It is a great opportunity to formally recognise, and celebrate the achievements of outstanding Scottish pharmacists and pharmacy teams, who have made a real difference to the profession and to the lives of their patients, which often go unrewarded.

Scotland is fortunate to have numerous individuals and teams who work tirelessly to ensure extremely high levels of pharmaceutical care and improved clinical outcomes for patients. Their commitment has helped to establish Scotland’s pharmacy sector as one of the best in the world.

Positive Solutions and Willach are also committed to helping the sector drive down costs, improve their operational efficiencies and deliver further improvements to the patient experience. Through our own technology and services we aim to provide cutting edge solutions and to support your pharmacy in this digital age, especially with the transition to automated dispensing.

With more than 20 years’ experience in the sector, we have helped a wide range of pharmacy businesses improve their daily processes, from single independent pharmacies to large corporate groups. It may be a challenging time for the industry in some respects, but we’re confident the entrepreneurial and innovative nature of pharmacists will prevail and we look forward to joining you on this journey over the coming years.

Good luck to all nominees.

WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP ENTRY CAN BE BY NOMINATION OR BY PERSONAL APPLICATION.

‘It is through making full use of the clinical capacity in community pharmacy that real gains in clinical care can be made. It is also where the community pharmacist’s contribution to multidisciplinary team working takes its place to open up access to primary care for everyone and reduce workload at GP practices and other local healthcare services.’

In her recently-published document Achieving Excellence in Pharmaceutical Care, the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer, Dr Rose Marie Parr, made it clear that collaboration within Scottish healthcare would bring the greatest benefit to patients. Whether that collaboration was with GPs, with district nurses, with physiotherapy teams or with other healthcare professionals was not specified, but what was clear was that it was pharmaceutical care carried out in partnership that would lead to optimal healthcare outcomes.

This new award is designed to recognise pharmacy teams which have worked in partnership with other healthcare professionals, regardless of the particular strand of healthcare involved.

This category is open to all pharmacy teams - either independent or chain - which can clearly demonstrate a successful track record of working closely in collaboration with other healthcare team.

• Teamwork that is evident in the examples put forward of good practice, which clearly highlight the benefits to patients in the local community.

• Clearly-defined, well-evidenced examples of initiatives and projects, which not only showcase the collaborative nature of the work involved, but which clearly illustrate the vital role played by team collaboration and integrated working.

Cegedim Rx is delighted to be sponsoring the new “Working in Partnership Award”.

This award recognises the efforts of pharmacy teams working in partnership with other healthcare professionals and is an opportunity for us to applaud the work of those who are embracing partnerships to help join up healthcare and ultimately advance patient care.

Although partnerships are essential in order to deliver the best level of patient care, we recognise the level of planning, effort and energy it requires to ensure they function well and are aligned towards joining up healthcare in a way that achieves the best outcomes for patients. The winner will no doubt have led the way by showing how the right partnerships with the right partners, executed in the right way, can bring about much needed improvements to the way in which healthcare is delivered in the community.

The very best of luck to all the pharmacy teams entering for this category. STEVE BRADLEY, MANAGING DIRECTOR, CEGEDIM RX
