ENTRY CAN BE BY NOMINATION OR BY PERSONAL APPLICATION. With more strategic emphasis being put on the role of the Independent Prescriber, the range of areas of competency continues to increase on a regular basis. As such, being an Independent Prescriber today enables pharmacists to prescribe medicines for a wide range of healthcare issues and, as such, enhances the level of care that the Independent Prescriber can provide. It also enables them to make professionally autonomous decisions while working in collaboration with nurses, GPs and other healthcare professionals.

This award is designed to highlight the vital – and increasingly patient-facing - role of today’s Independent Prescriber and will be awarded to a pharmacist, who has demonstrated their contribution to decision making and governance in practice prescribing to improve patient care. Pharmacist input could be sessional or full time, and could be achieved with both generalist and specialist input using primary, community or secondary care pharmacists working in/with the practice, according to local needs.

WHO CAN ENTER?

Idis has over 30 years of experience working with pharmacy and understands the challenges pharmacists face. Sourcing medicine that is on supply problem, has been discontinued, is not yet commercially available or is diffi cult to source for a variety of other reasons is time consuming and complex. We understand that patients rely on you and the pharmacist’s role is critical in ensuring patients receive the treatment they need; a role that fully deserves to be rewarded.

Not only do you need to be able to know who to turn to, you also require a wide range of skills and competencies, including a strong appetite for continuous learning, fi rst-class customer service skills and adaptability to implement the range of new services now available through pharmacies. Idis is delighted to show the support to the profession through supporting the Independent Prescriber of the Year category at the Scottish Pharmacist Awards.
