Sparkler Safety


Fireworks in the garden can be great fun, as long as they are used safely. Each year, over half of all fi rework injuries are suff ered by children.


Did you know that sparklers get fi ve times hotter than cooking oil? Sparklers are not toys and should never be given to a child under fi ve.


Always buy sparklers from a reputable shop to make sure that they conform to British Standards. This means that they should have BS 7114 written on the pack. Don’t buy sparklers from anywhere you’re not sure about, such as the back of a van or from a temporary, unlicensed market stall.


Read the instructions in daylight. Make sure you have: A torch


A bucket or two of water Eye protection and gloves

It is against the law to carry fi reworks in public if you’re under 18 Fireworks must not be sold to anyone who is under 18


It is an off ence to let fi reworks off during night hours (11pm to 7am), except on Bonfi re Night (midnight), Diwali, New Year, and Chinese New Year (1am)
