can see a restored Edwardian bathing machine and old pier machines; children can dress up in period- style swimming costumes. On display in the Sea Gallery are two cannons and cannon balls with other wreck remains, found by a 13-year-old boy diving in 1975. Time Team made a film of this. Other displays include another large cannon, naval swords, pistols and a portrait and items belonging to Admiral Pellew, from Nelson’s time. THETeign Heritage Centre, opened in 2011, is a landmark building on the main road opposite the train station. It houses Teignmouth and Shaldon Museum where visitors can discover the area’s history from medieval times. The museum is run almost entirely by volunteers. In the foyer, visitors

Gallery, the displays tell the story of Teignmouth from fashionable seaside in the late 1700s to popular holiday resort after Brunel’s railway reached Teignmouth. There is a Punch and Judy booth, memorabilia and film about famous people who stayed or lived here like the Beatles and rock group Muse
wars, in particular a German aircraft gun used in one of the worst air-raids to hit Teignmouth. On the top floor is a terrace, looking out over the rooftops, where you can picnic on dry days. The Heritage Centre also houses the Teign
Heritage Centre. Members have free entry to the museum, autumn and winter talks, summer outings and two journals a year, all for only £12.50 per person.
Children under 18 are free, but £1 if unaccompanied. Under 11s must be accompanied by an adult. The centre is fully accessible, with a lift to all floors and car parking nearby.

The Heritage Centre is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4.30pm in March and October, and from 10am to 5pm, April to September. Adult entry is £2.20 per person.
