SAINT-GERMAIN- DES-PRÉS
This is where bohemian fashion was born, when Yves Saint Laurent, Gaby Aghion (Chloé) and Karl Lagerfeld set out in this Left Bank hotbed of free- thinking artists and intellectuals. Now these storied streets are lined with boutiques that run the gamut from haute couture to the Gap. There’s so much here you’ll need multiple trips to see it all. The best way to shop in Saint-Germain is to wander, but if time is limited, here are a few streets to target: rue Saint- Sulpice, rue du Vieux-Colombier, rue Jacob, rue du Cherche-Midi, rue de Grenelle, rue des Saints-Pères, rue du Bac. Cultivated shoppers, do not miss:
Le Bon Marché, especially during the twice-yearly sales (fi rst Wednesday of January; last Wednesday of June). A hotbed of sophisticated chic, this elegant and tranquil destination does the work for you.
And here are a few important boutiques:
Carine Gilson 18 rue de Grenelle
The lingerie of your dreams in featherweight silks, sexy in an elegant way.
Vanessa Bruno 25 rue Saint-Sulpice
The designer who brought us the famous sequin-edged totes now dresses stylish Parisians year in year out.
A.P.C. 38 rue Madame
Paris-based label beloved for its chic minimalist ethos in tailored designs that never go out of style. Most popular items: trench coats and fl attering jeans.
Agnès b. 6 rue du Vieux-Colombier A Paris legend, her ever- wearable classics, made in quality fabrics that never seem to wrinkle no matter how long you sit on a plane, have a timeless quality that makes them worthy investments.
