PARIS SHOPPING 2017/18 THE GUIDE

This page: From huge department stores to tiny boutiques, Paris has it all

legendary label, the redesigned boutique is a must-visit when you’re in Saint-Germain, especially now that creative director Anthony Vaccarello has brought the base back to Paris.

Avril Gau 17 rue des Quatre Vents This tiny boutique presents a line of chic, vintage-inspired bags and shoes that quickly put Gau at the fashion forefront.

RUE SAINT-HONORÉ & RUE DU FAUBOURG SAINT-HONORÉ If you’re the kind of shopper that can handle only a single street at a time, make this the one. From the Palais Royal – another shopping hotspot – to the Élysée Palace, it extends over two arrondissements (rue Saint- Honoré in the 2nd and rue du Faubourg in the 8th, divided at rue Royale) and packs in scores of smaller Parisian elites, along with top names – Chanel, Hermès, Galliano, McQueen, Goyard – and their imitators – Zara, & Other Stories.

This street, and a few worthy offshoots, like rues Cambon, de Castiglione, and Saint-Roch, is a major stomping ground for wealthy shoppers, but it has its own trend-setting credentials too, not least in the form of concept store Colette, a fashion destination for chic youth, which, alas, closes in December.

Rue Saint-Honoré also intersects the place Vendôme, Paris’s historic headquarters for high-end jewellery, where you’ll find such luminaries as Chanel, Cartier, Chopard, Chaumet, Dior Joaillerie, Bulgari, Van Cleef & Arpels. Here is a not-to-miss selection:

Balenciaga 336 rue Saint-Honoré We can’t wait to see what 34-year-old Demna Gvasalia, a veteran of the Paris-based cult label Vetements, has in store for these legendary purveyors of cool refinement.

Chloé 253 rue Saint-Honoré

This opulent boutique set in a 17th-century mansion opened a few years ago as Clare Waight Keller’s Paris domain. After Natacha Ramsay-Levi’s ascendance last spring, now is a good time to stop in and assess her vision for the house.

Hermès 24 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré The iconic saddlery’s elegantly understated boutique may be the less fabulous of its two Paris flagships (the other is on avenue George V), but you’ll find all the luxury brand’s leather goods, scarves and fashions here. Sales are by invitation, but you’ll know the score by the lines snaking down the street.
