THE GUIDE PARIS SHOPPING 2017/18

THE HAUT MARAIS An edgier profile, and a concentration of Paris’s best concept stores, drawing a sophisticated, cosmopolitan crowd, sets the Upper Marais apart. The area comprises a rectangle delineated by the rue des Quatre-Fils, rue Vieille-du- Temple, rue Charlot and boulevard Beaumarchais. The rues to hit are: Vieille-du-

Temple, Charlot, de Poitou, de Saintonge, du Pont-aux-Choux – and here are the not-to-miss concept stores:

Merci

111 boulevard Beaumarchais If you go to only one boutique in Paris, go here. An unerring selection of the best in French, European and US fashion, jewellery and accessories, plus menswear, housewares, a sublime line of linen sheets and towels, and three fabulous cafés.

Leclaireur 40 rue de Sévigné Paris’s best avant-garde concept store gathers cutting-edge fashion and accessories in a hyper-designed space right out of a science fiction thriller. Around the corner from the Musées Carnavalet and Picasso.

Tom Greyhound 19 rue de Saintonge Tom Greyhound assembles all the usual high-fashion suspects in a bright, artsy space, including

some Korean outliers (this is the first European offshoot of the Seoul-based boutique).

Empreintes 5 rue de Picardie

The brainchild of France’s Métiers d’Art organisation, Empreintes highlights French artisans and artists creating masterful and super-stylish handmade crafts, jewellery, furnishings, housewares and artworks. The café is adorable.

Broken Arm 12 rue Perrée

A small but fabulous selection of European and American designers that you have and haven’t heard of. Plus, a smattering of leather goods, books and other beautiful, unnecessary objects. There’s a good café on the premises too, with outdoor seating across from a pretty park.

AB33 33 rue Charlot

A small but spot-on collection of lesser-known designers for women – separates, jewellery, lingerie and accessories.

Christophe Lemaire 28 rue de Poitou

The artistic director of Hermès until 2015, Lemaire left to focus entirely on his own label, for which we remain eternally grateful. Minimalism at its elegant best.
