It’s a fresh new look and even a new name for one of Bearsted’s well known hairdressing salons. Previously known as Scrulpes, the popular salon in Egremont Road, Madginford, has recently undergone a complete refurbishment, giving it a smart new look plus a new name to go with it - Ava James Hairdressing. The business is still owned and managed by mother and daughter team Christine Ottley and Paula Manktelow.
Christine originally opened Scruples on the Ashford Rd in Bearsted in
1989 and then went on to open the Madginford Salon in the early 1990’s. Her daughter Paula, who first joined her in 1993 has recently returned as a partner after
spending time bringing up her family. In fact, her children Ava and James (Christine’s Grandchildren) were the inspiration behind the new name. Paula said ‘We wanted a new name to go with the new look and using the children’s names seemed like a fitting choice and in keeping with the family business’.
It was Paula’s return to the business that prompted the refurbishment – giving it a brand new lease of life and improving it for their existing clients. The salon may have a new look but their standards are steadfast – they continue to
