OLDTHINGS& NEWTHINGS

“New occasions teach new duties, time makes ancient good uncouth, They must upward still and onward, who would keep abreast of truth.” – from ONCE TO EVERYMAN & NATION by James R. Lowell

“Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter in…by a new and living way, which he has consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh.” – Hebrews 10:19-20

Life in Christ is one continual challenge after another, and that is especially true for missionaries. We cannot rest in the victories of the past or be content with the achievements of days gone by. Fresh challenges rise up to greet us just like the sick and the infirm rose up to meet Jesus. In this issue of WORLD EVANGELISM, we will tell you about some new duties and opportunities, as well as provide you with updates on continuing areas of importance.

God has opened a new door to Cuba. In August, a team from WME went to Cuba alongside Joshua Weiss and a missions group using TODAY WITH GOD materials to conduct outreach. Our team was there to visit face-to-face with ministers and churches and find out the best way to help these local ministers reach the people of this island nation for Christ. Like the Apostle Paul, we know these Cuban believers can say, “For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.”

At the same time, WME is beginning a Romanian partnership with a group working in Ceuas village with Roma children who are the poorest of the poor. These children are required to attend public schools. But since the lessons are strictly taught in Romanian and they only speak Hungarian, they sit in classes they cannot comprehend and fail to receive the education needed to rise above poverty. The goal of this outreach is to feed these children, open a door to education and teach them about Jesus.

Meantime, WME is continuing to work in countries like Nicaragua, the Philippines, Moldova and the USA. There are children heading back to school who need sponsors. There are families and children who need a helping hand this Christmas. There are single mothers and their children looking to escape from a life of substance abuse and exploitation to begin new lives in a Christian program tailored to meet their needs.

And while we celebrate all the new doors and the ongoing ministry of WME, we take a moment to recognize the passing on to glory of our beloved Patricia Cathcart, who gave so much to WME’s ministry. She touched many lives during her time on this earth, and her life urges all of us to press on toward the high calling of God in Christ.

Let’s do it in His Name and for His sake.
