from Zuzanna Low, WME ministry partner in the Balkans

“The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, and he hath set the world upon them.”

– I Samuel 2:7-8

Our vision for the Balkans is to bring justice for the underutilized and to disciple the lost. From this was birthed an outreach to Ceuas village, one of the poorest communities in central Romania.

Our heart’s cry is to concentrate our efforts and make a deep, lasting impact on the next generation. And for Ceuas village, a critical need is to change the future for the poor, Roma (Gypsy) children living there.

Without intervention, these Roma children have little hope. They do not speak Romanian. Their second language is Hungarian, yet the public schools in their area only teach in Romanian. So sadly, the Roma kids essentially just sit through the day, not learning or understanding anything. Without receiving a good education, these children cannot break loose from the poverty holding their lives captive.

So we are working to change the lives of 10 Roma children in Ceuas village through an after-school program. God’s hand sovereignly moved in picking the initial group of children and in hiring the

teacher. We have free use of a classroom at the local school.
