STEAM ENGINES Full size

• WALLIS & STEEVENS 8 ton Advance Steam Roller, No 8069 Built 1931 - Owned by Trev Nicholls, St. Just

Following a couple of ownerships in the Kent area this roller was acquired by Nigel Crisp in 1992 who rebuilt the engine in the North Yorkshire railways workshops at Grosmount. After further ownership changes she was purchased by the present owner in May 2014.

• MARSHALL AGRICULTURE No 34022, REGISTERED NUMBER TQ 2876 “LITTLE AUDREY” 6NHP BUILT 1900, NOW 116 YEARS

New to Mr Honey of North Devon for threshing on 3 December 1900, and later bought by her driver Mr Ivey before spending the last 12 years of her working life belted as a stone crusher in the 1940’s.

Purchased for preservation in 1956, owner Hedley James and his brother drove her to St Eval over 3 weekends, where she had her cab replaced and the name given. She was rallied for several years before being laid up awaiting repairs. Current owner, Tyrone, assisted in the work need to bring the engine back to life such as a new big end and chimney. Over the last few years the gearing has been overhauled, new rear axle fitted and a spud pin replaced after removal circa 1957. The steering assembly has been refurbished and the original canopy removed awaiting replacement. Tyrone has 3 sons involved in maintaining “Little Audrey” which will see 3 generations of the same family running engine 34022 over more than 60 years.

• McCLAREN 4” SCALE ROAD LOCOMOTIVE “GROMIT” completed in 2011, 10nhp. Owned by Richard Kellaway, Millbrook

One of a pair built entirely from scratch with the exception of the pressure gauges; a project of more than 15 years completed in 2011. It will pull a 7.5 ton lorry, on grass, and can keep up with the big engines on the road.

• SAVAGE “LITTLE SAMPSON” BUILT 2015 Owned by Mr R. Higman, Trewoon, St Austell

Machining of the castings was started in January 2008, by 2010 a partly built engine visited a rally, and by August 2014 2 rallies were visited during final assembly. The final finishing was done over the winter of 2014 and a full steam test made in March 2015.

• BURRELL ROAD TRACTOR 4½” SCALE “PATIENCE” BUILT 1984 Owned by Mr T.M. Welch

This scale engine was purchased by the present owner in June 2006 and was rallied throughout that season. Over the winter it was stripped down and repainted.

• BURRELL 4” AGRICULTURE, “FRED” BUILT 1998, COMPLETED IN 2008. JOHN REX MODEL ENGINEERING DESIGNS Owned by Ian Lashbrook, Tavistock

Commercially built JRME Boiler, this engine took 10 years to complete. It developed a weeping tube, a complete re-tube was completed in February 2016. It is a standard single cylinder with slide valve activated by Stephen Gear. The Pole reservation footplate feed is by crank driven waterpump with bypass valve and an efficient injector fitted.
