Great Trethew Rally
We are fortunate to have a varied selection of English and foreign cars and motorbikes that are in excellent working condition, their owners spend many hours “titivating” so that they can enjoy using and displaying their pride and joy.
Many belong to the appropriate Owners Club and travel considerable distances in England and on the continent, to attend rallies to meet with owners of similar vehicles. Some attend sporting rallies which involve driving against the clock, or through muddy woods and rock- strewn streams which means that these cherished vehicles are not always treated with kid gloves.
It is interesting to note how vehicles have grown over the years. The old models appear to be quite small compared to current models, and things that are now considered to be luxury items, such as leather seats and wooden dashboards, were the only materials available in the pre- plastic days.
Their design has also changed over the years; the original designs were developed from basic requirements, then “designers” began to show their individual flair for sporting and luxury products with the most successful models still being sought today by enthusiasts.
great fun for all the family! Classic Cars and Motorbikes
The next design phase was the integral chassis; many of the vehicles produced in the 60s suffered from rust problems and many people think that the designers allowed their artistic talents to run away with their designs.
Towards the end of the 20th century cars became more durable and reliable but this was the start of the wind tunnel era and cars became more aerodynamically efficient, but unfortunately, they all begin to look alike.
Motorcycles have not suffered from this problem too much, but manufacturers seem to want to give everyone a race replica.

1st Great Trethew Steam Rally 2017 19
Tremendous advances have been made with tyres, suspension and engines.
The engines of the older models were capable of speeds that were just not safe with the tyres and suspension that was available then, so the design and production of tyres and suspension was improved to make safer use of the power; now the engines have been developed to produce so much power that electronic controls to braking, acceleration and cornering are provided.
These features were developed on the race track and have slowly been included in the specification of normal vehicles.
