www.trethewrally.uk Message from Mike Elford, Chairman

Welcome to the new Great Trethew Vintage Rally, the overwhelming enthusiasm and support received has been greatly appreciated. When I decided that a new Rally should be held, I knew that it would involve a lot of work and finance, but until the organisation started I was not aware of just how much was needed.

A public meeting was held last November. when more than 120 people offered to support the venture.

At this meeting a Committee was formed and the work started; as this was a new event we had to follow the requirements of Cornwall Council, which takes an overview of all events in the

County with the Police, Fire and Ambulance Services and Environmental Health.

The eventual aim of the Rally is to support local charities and good causes. As we have started from scratch it will be a year or two before we can reach this goal.

We have also sought sponsors for the Rally and are very thankful for those who have supported us; this financial support is essential to ensure that the Rally can continue and go from strength to strength.

Many of those who volunteered to help at the November meeting have taken responsibility as Section Secretaries, and have made the arrangements for the displays and activities, others have

volunteered to be Stewards for the Rally to ensure that no problems are left unresolved.

There are too many helpers to thank individually, but special mentions must go to the Gillbard family for their help and co-operation and for allowing the Rally to be held on their ground, and to Maurice Tamlin who has been elected as Honorary Rally President. Maurice has more than 40 years’ experience in organising this type of event, his knowledge and support shall prove to be invaluable.

The Rally will be officially opened at 2.00pm on Sunday by Sir Robert Hicks, who 40 years ago, opened one of the first Rallies organised by Maurice Tamblin.

The aim of the Committee has been to organise an interesting family day out with a friendly village green atmosphere, with entertainment for all age groups, from clowns and arts and crafts to big boys’ toys.

I hope we will succeed in this.

Please give us your support by attending the Rally.
