SEA URCHIN. In Class M(B) the dominate boat has been Eric Beal’s KIMBERLY ANN and today was no diff erent as he just beat out Billy-Bob Faulkingham’s 51 by a couple of boat lengths. In Class N, Andy Johnson’s WHISTLIN’ DIXIE crossed the fi nish line fi rst with a lead of three boat lengths over Marshall Spear’s JACALWA. THUNDERBOLT was a no show for
the start of the Gasoline Free-for-All so it was no surprise that LYNN MARIE streaked to an easy win. In the Diesel Free-for-All would WILD
WILD WEST get out of the hole better? And the answer was, yes. When the fl ag dropped the smoke cleared almost instantly and she was off coming up the course with a speed of 56.5 mph. MOTIVATION was holding her own, but it just was not enough and they fi nished one-two. The last race of the day was a repeat as
WILD, WILD WEST zipped up the course, chased by MOTIVATION. This day’s racing was great, so now it was onto Rockland the following day. Again NUGGET, skippered by Whyett
DiNapoli, was the only entrant in Work Boat Class A. In Class B, NADEN took the top spot followed over by Chris Hilding’s ARIANNA JADE in second and NUGGET in third. Steven Osgood’s FULL SECOND took fi rst in Work Boat Class C with second going to Kevin Hornby’s THE GOOD LIFE. In the Gasoline Classes, there were no
entrants in Class A, B and E. There was one entrant in Class C, BLACK DIAMOND, which we were surprised to see. Randy said that his engine builder told him that there was no problem running her. In Class D was LYNN MARIE. They both came down the course together and about half-way Stevie hit the throttle and away he went to an easy win.
In the Diesel Classes, there were no
entrants in only Class J. As there was just one entrant in Class A, Avery Waterman’s LEDGEHAMMER he ran down the course with Class B, which had two entrants. When the fl ag dropped LEDGEHAMMER worked her way into the lead, but was chased close by Genevieve McDonald’s HELLO DARLIN’ II, which went on to win Class B over Sean Haskell’s BAD OBSESSION. Class C was a repeat of the day before between LAST DESIGN and MISS ATTITUDE with LAST DESIGN getting the win. Again, the only entrant in Class D was PULL N’ PRAY. Two boats, Nick Wiberg’s MISS KATIE and Robert Curtis’ WHIRLWIND were on the line for Class E. When the fl ag dropped neither seemed to have an advantage until about half way up the course when MISS KATIE slowly worked her way into the lead and went on for the win. Three boats were on the line for Class F and no one was surprised to see MS. ROSE take the lead right at the start. Second went to Davin Haskell’s HOLLIGAN. Up next, was Class G with a couple of new competitors, namely David Osgood’s SPLIT SECOND. Would SEACOCK reclaim the top spot? As the fi ve racers came up the course the leaders looked close, but RIGHT STUFF seemed to have the advantage. As they crossed the fi nish line RIGHT STUFF crossed fi rst followed by SPLIT SECOND. FIRST TEAM was the only entrant in Class H so again he ran down with Class I, which pitted the same two racers again, MARGARET E. and MISTY with the same result. LISA MARIE was the only entrant in Class K as Jeff Eaton opted to come over on a boat he just fi nished out for Fred Hersom of Ellsworth. LISA MARIE ran down with the MISS KARLEE, MOTIVATION and WILD, WILD WEST.

When the flag dropped WILD, WILD WEST jumped right into the lead and fl ew to the fi nish line with MOTIVATION back by three boat lengths. In Class M(A) SEA URCHIN continued her winning ways just besting Sy Knight’s BELLA CRIE. In Class M(B) we had the newest boat of the weekend competing, BELLA GRACE [Sargent 42; 750-hp John Deere] fi nished off by Jeff Eaton. No one was surprised to KIMBERLY ANN out front and 51 back a couple of boat lengths fi nishing one-two. In Class N, WHISTLIN’ DIXIE did not show so it was JACALWA up against Murray Thompson’s SUNDAY MONEY. They came down the course together and at the line it was bow to bow. The race committee gave the win to JACALWA. The winner of the Gasoline Free-for-All
was LYNN MARIE. Next up was the Diesel Free-for-
All and WILD, WILD WEST continued their winning ways with second going to MOTIVATION followed by SUNDAY MONEY. There were no entrants in Wooden Boat Race A and just one entrant, Vance Bunker’s
WILD, WILD WEST heading for another victory at Rockland, where she got a clean sweep.
SARI ANN came to the line for the Wooden Boat Race B. Now for the last race of the weekend,
Fastest Lobster Boat, which could be interesting as LYNN MARIE was on the line with WILD, WILD WEST, MOTIVATION, and SUNDAY MONEY. When the fl ag dropped you could hear the gas engine scream, but then she coughed and sputtered and some wondered if she was blowing up. However, she regained her throaty sound and streaked up the course, but there was no
way to catch up with WILD, WILD WEST the winner and MOTIVATION in second. Some of the racers will be looking for
a little more speed before they head to the next venue, Bass Harbor, on 25 June. We do know that WILD, WILD WEST has sent their propeller to Nautilus in Trenton so they can remove the cup they put in after they set the record last year. Unfortunately, the added cup just made them slower and they hope to be back up over 60 mph this weekend.
