Le Mât Incliné It doesn’t get much stranger than this. Picture a fl agpole suspended above water, lathered in soap and poised at a 30-degree angle. Now picture men running up said slippery pole to grab the fl ag at its tip. C’est du génie, non? This is the premise of Le Mât Incliné, a quirky Bastille Day tradition in Honfl eur, Normandy. Paris Plages July 22-August 13, 2017 Summer in the capital sees Parisians fl ock to the River Seine in beachwear. It might sound odd, but in fact the Voie Georges-Pompidou and Bassin de la Villette waterfronts are transformed into sandy plages for the better part of July and August. It’s a chance for locals to feel on holiday at home, with activities ranging from dance and martial arts to water sports and mini golf.
